Originally Gunnar Nielsen was released in July but then turned up on the pre-season tour. It was assumed he had been given a contract to replace Stuart Taylor as our number three keeper but big Eirik Johansen was on the bench yesterday. If they feel he's good enough to back up Panty that will vacate a place in the squad for another foreign trained player.

He is still listed on the OS and Johansen isn't. Bit odd that.
Johansen is u21 and the player profiles are are not updated regularly.

I know, the OS is really good in my opinion, but they are a bit lazy keeping this up to date. Didn't know about the U21 rule. Razak is not yet 20 and is in there.

they get listed irrespective of age if they play for the first team in a league or cup match I think

He was released but then showed up training videos so might have been brought back like Taylor was last summer under similar circumstances. But Eirik Johansen has moved into the #3 position now.

err that was my original point - Taylor was brought back to be number three, Gunnar will be at least number four, actually I think Lawler got in ahead of him on tour as well.

Was released and then some weeks later was given a 1 year contract which runs to the end of June 2013.

More importantly why was a keeper who struggles to make the Faroe Islands national team bench under contract with us?

Is he classed as home grown?

Gunnar is on a month by month rolling contract while he recoveres from injury.

He did his cruciate (and a few other things) colliding with Ryan McGivern in a reserve game about 18 months ago

Planning to go to the Iceland - Faroe Islands game this week with some sort of sign for Gunnar.

Maybe Gunnar Nielsen I love you and the City badge underneath it.

Not every day you can see a Blue play in Iceland!

that's settled then, he's not our number three and an extra place for a foreign trained player in the 25 man CL squad is available because Eirik Johansen is on our B list. Excellent news on a Monday!
