Why?

Whose child is this?

Why does this bureaucratic body allegedly know better?

What gives them the right to tell parents what to do, or worse fine parents over their parenting decisions?

Rules my fucking arse. Nanny state more like.

A little give and take would not go amiss.

Don't send your kid to school then if you disagree. Choice is yours.

Wow it sounds like nazi germany. You do it this way or else.....

We're talking about a family holiday ffs!

personally Im amazed you cant see why these rules were brought in..

Nazi Germany my arse :)

Well OK :-) ....but at least agree that parents should make the important decisions in a chillds life including when thay go on holiday

I understand when exams come a calling that things may then be slightly different, but when kids are young to try and impose ''rules'' like this is ridiculous imo. It will make no particular difference academically and all the difference in the world from a family perspective, and that is far more important.

Yes. But on your terms. What if every family decides to take their kid on holiday at the same time.

Absolutely shocked you have such a legislation here :)
UK has opinion of generally free country but some rules (licensing laws or this, for example) clearly shows that UK government has strong desires to treat citizens as complete idiots and/or childish, prone to self-harming morons.
Not nice. However it`s the thing with most of the govs I`m afraid :(

see above John

but teachers get paid regardless

and they have far more holiday to play with

so I don't see that they should come first in this

It is amazing isn't it. What is the child and the teacher supposed to do when they return a week or worse two weeks later and all the kids have progressed. You could effect their confidence if they suddenly find they have been left behind.

People act like school places are free. They are not they are paid for by all of us and to be so blasé about wasting that for a holiday is criminal the cost of one child is estimated to be £9000. You have taken that place in good faith and are essentially throwing away maybe up to £200 per week, so it is right you should make that cost up. If your child is inn a over subscribed school then you are also taking that week away from another family who wanted it, maybe they deserved it more.

In Poland you can take your child out of school for a holiday whenever you choose?

Unfortunately OP, they can do this. Same as if the teacher skipped school for a cruise.

The curriculum is now so finely tuned, regimented, monitored and examined that missing a fortnight is tantamount to child neglect. Thank Michael Gove and friends.

"What if every family decides to take their kid on holiday at the same time."

It`s not gonna happen obviously, but even if...
Childrens belongs to their parents/guardians not to goverment, council or school, so parents plan and decisions should always comes before any bureaucratic decisions. End of story.

No it isn't. The state fine parents if kids miss school. They can even jail them.
