Is it time to end One Minutes Applause for supporters who have passed.

It is, as mentioned, a social media thing. Prior to Facebook et al you wouldn't have been able to organise fans to do it days and days before.
It seems to me though, to be something that friends want to see happen so they can congratulate themselves in saying "we gave him a good send off".
I think the applause for the 2 Geordies in that plane crash was worthy enough but then everyone one wants to jump on board and do a similar thing.
Funerals are for this kind of thing and the once a year at Xmas is good enough for me.
I hereby state should I join the class of 2016 in heaven, I don't want anyone standing up and applauding me. Playing "There is a light that never goes out" at half time will be enough

There'll probably be a minutes silence for the Croydon Tram crash victims at Palace

To be fair, I can understand that one. The tram crash happened less than two miles from the ground and its one of those events that has shaken the community within which the club is situated. There was at least two Palace fans killed too from what I've read so far. I think it's a bit unsustainable to expect fans to commemorate the passing of every single fan but in the case of the Croydon crash it's not too excessive for people to want to mark it in some way. If they do decide to do something hopefully our fans will respect it (which I'd fully expect as our fans are normally pretty good with that kind of thing).

Yeah I agree with the prevailing sentiments on this thread.

Only those dead fans with the more social media savvy friends and family get the minutes applause. Clap none or clap them all (which wouldn't be possible). The minutes silence at New Year was always more poignant anyway.

Yes please to a minute's silence (not applause, thank you) when I croak. Just don't let Liverpool Football Club lay a wreath. You know they'll try to muscle in.

In my opinion it would be great if we had a Remembrance section to this forum.

At the moment a passing of a blue gets posted in the main forum and is soon forgotten.

I'm on a Pink Floyd forum and they have a section called "Gone But Not Forgotten".

Only a suggestion thats all, at the end of the day I remember my late father in a very private way.

There is a facebook page 'MCFC Memorial, lets not forget past blues' which does exactly what you suggest. It has almost 8,000 members.

I really should invest in a company making computer keyboards. Get some of that bloody money back that I'm shelling out every few months. Either that, or charge them to Ric .
