Is it time to end One Minutes Applause for supporters who have passed.

I have never really been in favour of it .there are far more better ways to show respect .To day i am going to a church in Turkey for remembrance Sunday to pay my respects

It's clear from the consensus on here that the applause is not wanted or considered necessary but the minutes silence at the Christmas period is more appropriate. I completely agree with that consensus.

However, I've just read in the MEN that there is an intention to have a minutes applause during the game against Crystal Palace to remember those who perished in the Croydon train crash which apparently includes two Crystal Palace supporters. I would guess this would be one of those exceptional circumstances. If this applause does take place I would think most MCFC supporters would join in with the Palace fans to show our respects.

Yes , this is an exception,. I will be there and join together with Palace fans but agree it has got out of hand at City.
I will forbid my family, friends to ask for one at City when I pass away.

I don't really get why though? What's wrong with a minutes silence before the game? Wear black armbands etc.

Why does it have to be some cheesy, orchestrated event?

I was talking about this to my mate the other day.

The Wembley arch was in the colours of the French Flag last year but it is not the colours of the Iraqi flag today after 70+ died in a car bomb

We pick and chose who we 'remember' or what we commemorate. We need to remember it's a football match, not a remembrance service

A minutes silence(not applause) around Xmas/New Year is more appropriate with supporters/staff names on the scoreboard and/or advertising boards

It's obviously a sensitive subject, but I do think it's gone a bit far now. There are City fans who sadly pass away every single week, so you have to draw the line somewhere. I think the minute's silence at Christmas for everyone associated with the club who has passed away that year is more appropriate.

Weren't we one of the first (if not the first) with the Poznan for Nellie on the 23rd minute at Leicester in the cup in 2011? Not applause I know, but they seem to have spun on from there.
I agree though, half the time most people don't know why or who they are clapping for, and a minutes silence once a year, seems more poignant and personal to me.

Its starts with a minutes silence, then a minutes clapping and it will end up with a memorial service before kick off. Where will it all end.
