Is kolarov what you expected?

Thats just it, i dont think its a case of formation or getting used to the league, he doesnt look to have any of the qualities modern premier league full back require. He NEVER prevents the cross and hes aware of his lack of pace so always stands way too far off his man. I dont care if he had a thunder shot, his 1st responsibility is to defend and he cant do it.

I agree I'm disappointed in him, but don't you think he's asked to do a bit too much? The goals that are his fault are when a cross from his winger leads to a goal, or a winger turns him inside out and scores. Recently the goals we've conceded come when he's been out jumped by a huge centre forward or centre back, or out foxed by a hugely experienced centre forward who uses a bit of movement to score. When it happens right in front of the goal, from a cross that has come all the way from the other side.... to me that stuff is 100% the Centre Backs' job.

possibly, thats why i said he's benefit from a new manager or a new system, its odd seeing a really good player play so fucking shit.

Too slow, gets turned far too easily by a lot of wingers. General lack of effort in his defensive duties, just wants to get forward and try his 30 yard screamers which actually come off once every 15 games or so. Crap buy, looked good in Serie A cos Serie A is shite at the mo.

Thats a fair point, i agree that he gets very little protection from the winger/ left mid. But that doesnt alter the fact that when he is left 1 on 1 he rarely prevents the cross or makes a tackle. Ive watched him more closely the last few games and he just isnt a good defender. This is exacerbated by his poor attacking play. He does look to have the attacking part in his locker but he isnt showing it too well so far.

We have not had a decent left back since Neil Pointon. Fact.
Go on, name one since then.
It's hard because our left backs have been utter dogshit since then.

After one half at Spurs I commented on here that I thought he was going to be a poor signing. I was widely lambasted.

Yet another example of this dick of a manager squandering world class sums on Championship class players.

I always thought terry phelan was ok. But i was permenantely pissed during the 90's.

The thing that worries me most about Kolarov is that he seems to pull out of alot of 50/50s which should be bread and butter for a defender, he should want to stick his foot in, 2nd goal tonight he just stood there trying to block it with his head turned away from the ball, if thats kompany hes throwing his body at the ball with 100% commitment.

Bit of a one trick pony for me. He's of the 'I get forward a lot and have a wicked shot so I must be good' mould. He can't actually defend very well at all and has been at fault several times this season.

Much as people quote our defensive record as being decent, I think this is due to our overall negative team approach and playing 2 DMs than actually having a shit hot back 4.

Our defence still need a a lot of work in terms of bringing players in, whereas I think the midfield and forwards just need better tactics/management.
