Is now the time to consider Mancini's tenure at the club

My stance on Mancini has been known for a couple of years. I keep trying to give him the benefit doubt but I always end up going back to my original stance.

The question people need to debate is whether we have won things because of him or in spite of him.

My opinion is that a really good manager makes the total better than the sum of the parts. Jurgen Klopp at Dortmund would be a very good example of someone who built a team up on very little money, moulded together an excellent side of unproven names to become back to back champions and became a team that looks sure to qualify at our expense. Indeed, one that taught us a footballing lesson despite those players having as little Champions League experience as City the club has, which seems to be the staple excuse for us round these parts.

Roberto Mancini's team is less than the sum of the parts in my eyes. Certainly this season. A really good manager would have seen us win the league by a good few points last season, without the need for the United thowaway, because his tactical buffoonery on the road cost us many points. Similarly, that tactical buffoonery is costing us more points and masses of goals this year. I would also suggest that we would have won the Carling Cup too last year with another manager at the helm.

Our squad last season was by far and away the best in the league yet it so nearly ended up with nothing. That was because he changed his tactics away from home. It should never have been that way. Far too often we respect lesser opposition too much. Instead of going for the throat when the opponents are on the rack, we sit back, stroll around and play a containing game when the chances are that we'd have wrapped the game up playing to our attacking players strengths. This team would be excellent if it was allowed to express itself but it isn't.

This season there will be even less of an excuse for those tactics because everything was in place and we don't have to contend with the first time nerves.

It would be folly to get rid of Mancini now but I would suggest that a trophyless year may well see searching questions asked at the top, especially if we don't really challenge for the title.

I think that the players look lost out there at the moment, and I'm getting vibes from the players that they just don't understand what the manager is trying to do at all.

It has always been my opinion that it was the quality of the players that won us the title in spite of the leadership rather than because of it.

The notion you're pedalling of winning a 38 game premiership title in a league with 5 or 6 very good teams 'in spite of' a manager is utterly ludicrous.

Give me one example of that ever happening?

Blackburn/Dalglish
Is this serious? He used to be a very manager.

I am not even reading the whole thread, why the fuck are we questioning Mancini postion each time we have a dip in a result, beat Swansea 3-0, he then becomes the best thing since sliced bread, if I die towmorrow I will have seen the 6-1, the FAC won again. a record breaking home run 'still' Lge champs 'again' fuck off with these threads if Robo is here next season great, if not we move on but while he is here with the team he has put together fucking support them. Didn't even come on here last night because you just know what fans are posting on different threads.
Roll on Sat and let the real fans support the boys.

Thank you for also expressing my feelings.

Unbeaten in the league and level on points with Utd, it's fucking ridiculous what has become of some of our fans since the money came in.

People should have a look at what Mancini did with Lazio before questioning his managerial ability. Lazio might not even exist today if not for his managerial ability as virtually a rookie as a manager. He is a top manager, not the best and certainly not the most player friendly, but has delivered three trophies in 1 1/2 years. As soon as we hit a bad patch the hounds are out, who needs the media when some of our own fans smell blood?

Mourinho - the best manager in the world - has basically lost La Liga already to Barcelona after 8 games, has failed to deliver the Champions League in two attempts with the most expensive squad in the world, and currently has Real Madrid at risk of finishing 2nd in our group which would mean facing a group winner in the next stage. Now if changed Real Madrid to City and all of those facts remained the same, would the Mancini Outers be saying the same about Mourinho? Managers like players and teams have bad patches, in fact Mourinho got sacked by Roman for one of his few bad patches at Chelsea in a move that Roman has regretted.

It also can't be ignored that Mancini asked for players that would have improved us quite a lot (RVP, Hazard, De Rossi/Martinez) but the club was unable or unwilling to get them. People will say "He's already spent loads of money so it doesn't matter"... guess what, Mourinho has spent loads of money then spends more! A club/team never stops improving. So did Guardiola, Barcelona spent a lot of money under his reign and not all of his signings worked out. Barca won something like 4 or 5 trophies then splurged approximately £55million on Fabregas and Sanchez! You don't stand still in football.

Yes there are managers like Klopp who are doing an amazing job on a budget... guess what, so did Mancini at Lazio! They were bankrupt and asset stripped of Crespo, Nesta, and other good players, he got them into the Champions League and the UEFA Cup semi finals under these circumstances! It's a lot different when you're at a club with money, they don't work like clubs on modest budgets.

The reality is that Mancini is not a brilliant manager like Brian Clough at his peak, or Mourinho at his peak. He is merely a very good manager. You don't win League titles in two countries if you are a poor manager. To start with you don't get the opportunity in the first place and even if you did, you would fuck it up.

If Mancini continues at City he will win more leagues FA cups etc. He probably won't win us a CL. Having said that the CL is a bit of a lottery anyway. Liverpool, Chelsea anyone?

Even the bizarrely much lauded (on here) Ferguson has done pretty much doodly squat in 26 years in Europe. Constantly embarrassed by the likes of Barca and Milan, even Bilbao.

The reality is the requirements of the PL and the CL are so different it is pretty difficult to switch from one mode to the other in the course of 4 days.

As for the argument we should have beaten United easily last year. Well we got 89 points. What would have been easy?? 99 points. Would that have been satisfactory? We were 25 points ahead of the European champions!!!

I certainly wouldn't have Wenger, Ferguson, di Matteo, AVB in charge. Would you? Guardiola as some have said would be a gamble.

To the "MANCINI OUT" squad on here..... You are a disgrace to the club and to the loyal fans of this club. You are the reason we are mocked by supporters of other clubs.I wonder how many of you fickle fuckers would have been wanting Bobby out at 93:20 on the last day of the season. Go and give your heads a wobble and come back when you are ready to SUPPORT the club!!!!!! FORZA MANCINI...
