Is our defence falsely ridiculed? (Probably Not)

Kolarov has to go in the summer

Sick of seeing him sprinting forward but jogging back - even when it's obvious our CBs are about to get ripped to shreds. Only one who gets back slower is Yaya and that's party because he sits on his arse for 2 mins before even bothing to stand up!

He also has a shoddy weak as piss mentality, like Dzeko. Can't believe he gets the armband before the likes of Hart and Zaba. But that's MP's fault

Yeah, but at least he's great at reciting Christmas carols and having boxing matches with Chappy. What more could we ask for in a defender?

Kolarov is the worst LB in the fucking league. Can't defend, slow as fuck, thinks he's Messi on the ball when he really really isn't, tries to go for goal from impossible distances and angles and only hits the crowd and his crossing is shit as well just smashing it as hard as he can into a defender.

We have the third best goals against us this season and we've only conceded 4 goals in our last 6 games in all competitions. So why does it get such bad press? Of course there is the odd rubbish moment like West Hams second goal the other week, but that can happen from time to time.

If our only weak link is our defence then I am happy, as it really isn't as bad as some make out.

Plus blues we have our captain back soon :)

Thoughts?

nope they're fucking awful

nope they're fucking awful
This unfortunately.
I look at the way we have defending this season, it's clear for all to see, except Pellegrini it seems.
We don't need a new defender, we need a new defence.
We seem to make the same mistakes week in week out, the amount of times I heard the question "do we have a defensive coach"? The answer seems to be no!
I said months ago I don't think we'll win the league with our defence and nothing I see has changed my mind.
I've been worried about top 4, but our saving grace has been Liverpool, scum and Chelsea have been poor as well.
It's not just the defences fault either, the midfield seem to jog round the pitch which obviously doesn't help, lazy fucking team! one thing is for sure, Pep has got his work cut out for him.
I nearly left early today, like loads of other blues did, I've not left early since Pearce was in charge, pretty much sums up my feelings about this season.
I'm really not enjoying going at the moment, come home in a bad mood and it lasts all week till we play again, then it starts all over again : )

They must be told to dive in to everything. My lads u12 coach told the players day 1 to delay. Delay, delay, delay. We commit, commit, commit. That has to be instruction.
Also telling everyone bar 2 defenders to go bombing forward all at the same time doesn't help.

Ha I love that, what was the 'slight swearword' out of interest?

But back to the thread. It seems our defenders are mainly very solid but always look like they've got a major mistake in them. I think Otamendi is due a red card sooner rather than later with his rash playing style. Mangala always worries me when he's got the ball at his feet and has time to think. Demichiles is obviously very slow so against a speedy forward you always fear the worst. Then even captain fantastic himself, Vinnie is very aggressive in his play which is obviously a trait that has made him so successful and such a legend, however playing such an aggressive game makes susceptible to getting caught out of position and looking a bit stupid.

It's a combo of individual defensive shiteness, midfield laziness & incompetent management I recon.

A proper manager would improve the defence considerably but not to the extent it would actually be top level. Not without VK anyhow. You can't polish a turd.

(I said someone was full of shit btw & was banned wheras a bloke who called me a **** a few posts earlier was allowed to continue posting. But he towed the line opinionwise).

No. I would say though that we fail to defend as team - its not just the back four. But then this has been going on pretty much since Pellers arrived and since January 15 it has been bought into sharper focus given we don't score enough to compensate.

The timing of the goals is also symptomatic of a lack of mental sharpness not to mention conceding from a throw-in ffs as we did at WHU. We are just too sloppy all over the shop and like everything in these situations we are just a mirror of the guy in charge. People put up a lot of chaff about shots allowed, individual mistakes etc but its gone on for far too long for these excuses to wash (not that I actually bought them in the first place). For me its an organisational problem. We may not know what goes on in training but you do get to see the fruits of it and it tastes rotten.

I would love to see our defensive set-piece drills in training but judging by what goes on in the games I could be waiting until hell freezes over. That first goal is scarcely believable for any top flight team, how the fuck does Huth get a tap-in from 6 yards without a challenge?

Do we do any drills? And if we do then why are they not applied on match day? Its beyond frustrating because we can do better and should have been doing better for over a year now.

Still Pellers is toast so no real point venting about it aside from making me feel better...

Not 'bollocked' anyone. Just commented on the actual thread.

Again, do you think it's fair to describe 3 near identical stats in 3 vastly different ways? That is the crux of the op's point.

Our defending attracts far harsher critisisium than other defences of similar or identical statistical performance. Agree or disagree?

I'm going to try this one last time although fuck knows why. There is nothing in the OP that suggests that your way of interpreting it is any more appropriate than the way some others have interpreted it. Some people like you have chosen to discuss the treatment other teams' defences get compared to ours in the media and plenty of other people have chosen to discuss the reasons why our defence gets the bad press it does which obviously involves discussing our defence. Both of those seem perfectly reasonable ways to respond to the OP if you ask me. You say you didn't bollock people but you did tell Neville that he shouldn't be using the thread to discuss the defence, and you told me I shouldn't and that I should be discussing how the media don't give others teams' defences as hard a time. You just come across as arrogant, pedantic and bit thick to be honest.

They take too much blame at times. Our midfield is shoddy at being organised and positioned, especially in a two with Yaya.

I would like to see us try something a little different.

Doesn't need to be these players but i would like to try 3 at the back with two attacking full backs
In order to do this we would need to have two energetic full backs s we would need to buy new.
Use the pace of Sterling, KDB AND Aguero on the break

------------------------------------------HART---------------------------------------------

----------------OTOMENDI---------KOMPANY-----------MANGALA--------------------

ZABBA-------------------------------DELPH------------------------------------CLICHY

----------------KDB------------------DINHO-----------------STERLING----------------

--------------------------------------AGUERO--------------------------------------------

Yeah Saturday was pretty conclusive wasn't it, the OP question I made was justified at the time, but I feel this game sort of brought things to light. Pep needs to focus on making changes in defence when he arrives. So poor.
