Is Shay Given the best keeper we've ever had? If not who is?

Personally.Judging only in the time I have been watching city (which began when Perry Suckling was our No1). I would say that it has to be Schmiechel. Even in the twighlight years of his career he was miles better than Coton and James. Can't really comment on the older ones though and lets not forget some of them didn't even wear gloves! But Given is not even in top 5 of all time city keepers I don't think.

Coton for me, ruined it all by going to the Rags. I randomly remember seeing him play for Watford vs Villa in the old Div 2, was at Villa and in the Holte end, he was getting loads from the Villa fans "City reject" etc etc as he started at Birmingham, he was making no bones about giving them the v's and wanker signs. He was doing this as Villa broke towards his goal, a thunderbolt was unleashed by a Villa player and to this day i dont know how he saved it... after the big Ooooo the Holte end started to clap it was that good as he picked himself up... TC got up and simply carried on his hand signals... i was pissing myself being a neutral... He also saved one for us against Leeds i dont know how he got to it, would have played more for England but had a reputation for being a bit nuts...

Yeah Coton was good but he was not as good as Peter.

ISAKSSON!! :D Hehe, just kidding, but he's alright and he's still our Sweden #1, even though it's a position where we're lacking that really amazing quality.

I'm 22 this month, so Trautmann was obviously way before my time, but from what I've heard he was amazing. I think in terms of pure quality it's probably Given or James at his best...it's the unending debate about comparing past legends to present ones I suppose. If you can't, and each legend has their own time or whatever, then I'd defo say Trautmann. PLUS on top of that he was a decorated WW2 hero (I don't care for which side, it's quite a feat either way) and there's this crazy story with his neck of course - now that shows commitment like nothing else I've heard. :)

Coton was absolutely unbelievable for one season.

But Schmeichel was the best 'keeper I've ever seen in the flesh.Worth 6 points a season.A total leader.
The double save he made at Liverpool when we won 2-1 at 39 years old has never been bettered in my book.
Check his face when we beat the rags at Maine rd.in the same season.Didn't give a shit.Just wanted to win.
