Is social media ruining football ?

This site is the only social media I use. I keep promising myself to delete my account here but haven't quite managed it yet. It does have an addictive quality.

I have a FB account but never use it except for a few people that contact me through the messenger chat function. Never had Twitter and don't go on any other forums.

I don't feel that I'm missing out on anything really.
I don't know.
You might be missing some bird saying she's put a new top on.
On some.bloke has had a breakfast

Facebook, for me, is a good way of keeping in touch with old friends form school, uni and previous jobs.

I‘m in a couple of City groups there and a few jokey ones. It’s fine for that for me. I’m not in any bantz groups as it’s been the same jibes repeatedly for years.

Twitter is okay, but I don’t follow that many people and haven’t tweeted in a decade. Get some decent football news and stuff going on locally.

Not on Instagram. Tried it, but it’s literally people posting shit photos and videos constantly.

Headline culture is as much to blame. Less than half of people will read beyond the headline of an article, jump to conclusions and respond with their pre-conceived narrative.

It certainly isn’t ruining football. It might be ruining some people’s view of other fans. But it’s a completely free choice how much you want to get involved isn’t it?

I hear people saying things like… I used to have a bit of a soft spot for such a club but I fucking hate the bastards now because of their twat fans.

If it was due to things that actually happened with their fans at a real life game, I’d have a bit more understanding.

But people getting themselves into a tizzy because a 12 year old child in India thinks City didn’t sell out their allocation at Newcastle in the League Cup?

Or that half of Ireland are trying to earn a bit of coin by pretending they’re die hard scousers and claiming they hate City the most?

People probably need to see Twitter and the likes for what they are or get off there and spend a bit more time in the actual real world.

Not even the numerous sites claiming football is fixed?

I don’t understand how wound up people get over different opinions from people they’ll never meet.

I mean, what’s the point?

Well, I tend to agree, but I'd just like to point out that it happens on every single forum. Including (especially?) this one.
And I mean, people getting into the most incredible rages. It raises the point, I suppose: are you somehow “meeting” people through a forum? I personally don't think so, for one second. But I dare say others think differently.

Constant click baiting tweets creating divide in fan bases whether it's against the owners, manager and certain players.
always a tidal wave of outrage after every defeat or even when a line up is announced.
More and more fans going to matches just for their social media profile, selfies sticks and selfies everywhere, filming themselves for their tik tok accounts.
More Arsenal fan tv type of streams now for all clubs.

I still love football but all the above has put me off somewhat in recent years and feel more disconnect with my fanbase and football in general, maybe early signs of approaching FOC territory.
Stick to the footy and fuck sm off.
