Is Tenby any good ? - UPDATE - Booked but which route P3

Might take Mrs Walshy and the girls away for a few days.

Is Tenby any good for a young family (3 and 1 year old) ?

Anything we should do or avoid ?

Any tips appreciated...

We went down the motorway - M6/M5/M4 which was an eternity of boredom.

The route back was far, far better - shorter with a ton of interest and not really any longer timewise.

Assuming you're coming from Manchester, google earth essentially shows the route we took going back.

Essentially its the M56 to Chester and then the A483 through Wrexham, Welshpool, Newtown all the way to Carmarthen.

If you have Google Earth installed, just put start and finish locations in and it will show you the route.

That's looking favourite, I've used the A483 when visiting customers and it's a pretty good road. The thought of being in traffic on the M5 with the kids bored and kicking off in the back when you can't stop and get out is not appealing.

After all your advice I have booked for a few days in Tenby next week.

Do I go :-

Chester then down A483 to Welshpool, Llandrindod stopping at a nice pub half way for lunch and the kids to play - 198 miles (many of them slow but better scenery)

or

As above but carry on across to Aberysytwyth then round coast to Cardigan then down to Tenby - 203 miles but more scenic and more for kids when we stop ?

or

M6-M5-M4 - 257 Miles risking potential jams past Brum and boring as fuck ?

Advice please .....

Hahahaha - well researched Walshy.

The coast route might be slightly longer in distance but just as interesting as the A483.

AVOID THE MOTORWAY.

In terms of interest there are loads of interesting places to visit, but for me the abiding memory were 2 restaurants - The old sailor at Dinas and the old pharmacy at Solva: -

Anyone give us a clue where to park near ground? Don't want to bump into Rags as i've got my Pregnant sister with me and can do without trouble :) For the final we parked near the Stoke end.
