Is the false nine an updated version of the Revie plan

I remember that, when I was a kid, I read about Ken being referred to as the best uncapped player in England. I'd have taken it with a pinch of salt given that you hear it said about a number of players. But Denis Law was one who said it, and he was quite some player himself.
I was lucky enough to see Ken score a hat-trick of penalties against Everton, the year escapes me.

He was.
Aside from his Goals for City.. I came across, randomly a game on you tube.. the 1970 derby v man Utd. Law got 3
Denis law really was a False 9,in that he didn't look a traditional centre forward but scored so many headed goals ...,brave headed goals..that you would not expect a man of his height to score.
Lethal. And Brave in the 6 yard box.esp at old Trafford.; )

A false nine is essentially a deep lying centre forward. It is not a new position. Tom finney played it for Preston later on in his career. That's how new it is.

For a club with no history, having players like Revie, Hayes and Johnston. Then having tactical innovative thinking that took in the Austrians of the 30s, Gran Torino of the 40s, the Revie plan of the 50s, the Magical Magyars, Dutch Total Football, Johan Cruyff's Barcelona.....

Who'd a thunk it?

Wonderful symmetry with Pep being a Cruyff disciple.
Pep was coached by Cruyff at Barça
Cruyff was coached by Michels at Ajax
Michels was coached by Reynolds at Ajax
Jack Reynolds was a Mancunian who was at City (although never played a first team game… his brother did though), from Prestwich who went on to coach Ajax and won their first ever titles.

Pep coming here brings it all full circle.
