Is the lack of Saturday matches becoming a problem?

There's football on every day eventually people will just get bored of it
I already am. There’s more football on tele than ever but I now watch less than when there was less on because its getting boring seeing so many games. Especially with how boring the PL is now with terrible ball-in-play numbers, mind-numbing time wasting, long throws, a minute to take set pieces, shit refereeing, shit VAR.

It was better when there was less football on tele and you would tune in not having seen any for a few days.

I watched City(say 3 times a week) so that doesn’t leave much time/interest for other games.

They’ll never do it but think of the F1, NFL model - less is more. But football is going the other way. With TV deals becoming stagnant. The PL need to offer more time slots for the same money.

As it is now i only watch City and I doubt i will be watching much of the WC.

Football is close to getting boring, the low block park the bus, playing rugby at corners and free kicks, take over a minute for a throw in, fake head and general injuries, time outs.

Football needs to remember its about entertainment. Playing like arse is only liked by arse fans. Pep said Football is about entertainment for the fans, I hate Arteta style of football.

I feel like there's no way to verify this being true. People who are fans of their clubs surely aren't passing up a live game for the sake of a PL game involving 2 clubs they don't follow.
It's not a matter of watching two lower level teams they don't follow, it's a matter of them watching their local lower level teams because their PL team (local or otherwise) isn't playing until the Sunday or later on the Saturday.
Go to any non-league game and there will be fans wearing colours of PL teams, and not just kids.
The fear is that these fans would prefer to watch their PL teams on TV rather than non-league games live. Whether that is misplaced is difficult to assess.
I do a bit of groundhopping but would never watch a neutral game while City were playing, but I don't watch the same lower level team regularly. Some do, and whether that would continue if the black-out was lifted is unknown.

Official figures would suggest not:
MD2 Spurs - Sat 12:30 - 52,491
MD4 United - Sun 16:30 - 52,534
MD6 Burnley - Sat 15:00 - 52,427
MD8 Everton - Sat 15:00 - 52,498
MD10 Bournemouth - Sun 16:30 - 52,387
MD11 Liverpool - Sun 16:30 - 52,511
MD13 Leeds - Sat 15:00 - 52,483
MD15 Sunderland - Sat 15:00 - 52,436
MD17 West Ham - Sat 15:00 - 52,454
MD20 Chelsea - Sun 17:30 - 52,503
MD21 Brighton - Wed 19:30 - 51,728
MD23 Wolves - Sat 15:00 - 52,469
MD26 Fulham - Wed 19:30 - 50,717
MD27 Newcastle - Sat 20:00 - 52,187
MD29 Forest - Wed 19:30 - 51,965
MD33 Arsenal - Sun 16:30 - 52,523
MD35 Brentford - Sat 17:30 - 52,489
MD36 Palace - Wed 20:00 - 51,738
MD38 Villa - Sun 16:00 - 60,332

However, not sure what they count as attending. Some of those don't look right based off of what I've seen this season.

Wel we averaged 52,640 last season, so that isn't bad considering we didn't win the top prizes of Premier League title or the Champions League ..... the big question is, now that the new stand extension is open, can we maintain attendances of around 60,000 next season ? A lot will depend on how Maresca does, and his style of football, if he's the new boss ..... but no matter what day we play our games, it will always disappoint some fans, and sit well with others .... we don't appear to have a great relationship with the Premier League, seeing as they blatantly turned down five city suggestions to play the Bournemouth fixture earlier this month, and the TV influence on the game is only gonna increase, so we're almost certainly just gonna have to 'toe the line' and just play our games when they want us to .... unless we wanna take a stand and park our arses outside Premier League HQ for a few weeks waving placards telling them we're not playing ! That should upset the clowns even further than we've already done, and especially if we bang our placards on the windows whilst they're trying to have their executive lunches !!

This seems easy to solve

A season ticket can be downloaded to more than one phone, so why not have it on your phone and your sons. If he does not go then you chip someone in, it still shows as having been used by your lad unless someone tells me I am wrong on that?
Facial recognition is coming I’m afraid !

I posted the above quote after Crystal Palace won last night and I do think this could start to become a problem.

We had just 15 league games on a Saturday last year, we were lucky 9 were at home. 39% of our league games. The whole league only had 46% of the 380 games on a Saturday. Can see this being an important factor in season ticket renewals across the whole league.

Now I don't know about everyone else but I hate late Sunday games and Monday games. I'd rather us play Friday night than those 2 days.

Sky have been pushing this 2pm slot on a Sunday. They love it because they get to avoid the blackout.

Is it annoying anyone else?
The match going fan is the last thing TV or for that matter clubs are interested in .

But, if they were mostly on a Sunday, there would be no need for a 1630 kick off. They could have one game at 1300 and the rest at 1500, with an option to watch anytime you wanted.

I suppose it varies person to person but I still think a 3pm kickoff on a Sunday would not be great with the way the transport system is around Manchester. Also most people take Sunday as a day to recover and prepare for work. Getting back from the game, for a 3pm kickoff late in the evening, I think most would prefer that situation on a Saturday.

You could be right but at least it would stop a lot of ‘if that then then, but if that then that other thing’ nonsense we have. It’s almost always a Sunday would be preferable to ‘it might be Saturday, Sunday or Monday’ and we’ll let you know a couple of weeks before…

Football at 3pm on a Saturday just has a very traditional, cool feel to it, doesn't it?

But with all the fixture congestion and saturation, and multiple competitions, and TV demands, the most successful teams rarely get to play at that slot.

Yeah I agree with you there mate. I do still love football in theory, but the sheer amount of games and all the noise on and off the pitch does its best to put me off. Then there's just getting older - I don't know if anyone else thinks like this or it's just me, but when you're a kid and players are old enough to be your dad the game feels mythical. Now I am well past what would be retirement age (44) and seeing all these players young enough to be my son makes me feel disconnected. As I said though I don't follow a team so maybe without that tribal aspect this 'disconnection' hits harder for me than many of the guys and girls on here.

But aye, these days I prefer playing football myself - I have always played though only once in the last 9 months, which is unusual for me, but there's something special about playing yourself and having control over the outcome and performance.

I am rambling a bit but I saw your post about losing interest in the game and I sometimes feel like that too. I think after the World Cup I will try to limit how many games I watch a week. I already really only watch rags (as an ABU), big games in England. Champions League, and some Scottish.

I am in a big way into predictor leagues though (lost interest in FPL years ago) and that keeps me more invested.
