Is the Premier League corrupt?

Well just to add an Evertonians view on this I believe yes. Clattenburgs now infamous performance in the Merseyside Derby caused him to never referee a match involvign Everton again. 1st mistake giving Liverpool a penalty for a slight knock to Gerrard, 2nd mistake sending off Tony Hibbert after listening to a little wor din his ear from Gerrard. 3rd mistake not sending off Dirk Kuyt for a kung fu challenge on Phil Neville. 4th mistake not giving Everton a blatant penalty after Carraghers near Rugby tackle on Lescott. Now to me his absence from officiating Everton games suggests that there is an underlying reason for this that he was biased against Everton. A in depth look a results that would ahve been different showed that in the 2007/2008 season Everton would have finished 4th with Liverpool finishing 5th. Everton had some pretty strange decisions made against them that year including a ridiculously dissallowed goal away at Blackburn. It was only due to Liverpool being unsavable last season that Spurs finished 4th. I am a conspiracy theorist at heart but I believe that certain teams particuarly United get some fairly lucky decisions. The fixtures always seem to work out for United as well. There was a ridiculous statistic that went on for somethign like 10 years that no away team had scored a penalty on Old Trafford. You've got to remember the money it generates to have a top four. It means every season they can advertise the games and go on about whos goign to break into the top 4. But actually as we speak I believe there's just a top 2.

Danny Kelly was talking about this on talksport earlier

I think ray parlour said that the refs are too close to the top players (calling terry JT, etc). Therefore, when they ref players they don't know (e.g. the promoted clubs) the subconsciously favour them less.

It is far too cosy. Dissent especially. I'd like to see more respect for refs but they need to be brave

Red cards for swearing, etc. it'd be chaos for a few weekends but well worth it

Having just read the Clattenburg thread and seeing several stupid decsions over the weekend (Chuckle not getting sent off) you have to seriously ask the question.

I honestly believe hand on heart it is corrupt one way or another and there ARE bent refereers and officials.

Discuss ?

Corrupt is wrong but having listened to Grham Pole (I think it was anyway) and his comments on Ronaldo then i would say completely and totally biased

Had Gary Chuckle been in a Stoke shirt he would have been off - its that simple

i completely agree with this and would love to see it implemented in all levels of the game

the game is about skycards, the decisions are about skycards, the premier league is about skycards, the referees have a duty to their employers who is my friends murdochs sky? going back to yesterdays game mr clattenburg should never have been allocated a game involving city of that categorie after his attitude at the bolton game away last year, also the everton fan earlier in this thread was totally right, i watch that derby in bewilderment of his decisions in that game, referees can grease the wheels of a game very easily, like bobby said it has to be the same for every team?

$ky is about sky cards
$ky pays the FA billions for TV rights
mufc and $ky have a joint venture in mutv
the big 4 protect the big 1 vested interest by default
competition to the big 4/ big 1 is unwelcome
the FA pays the refs
the rags (and the old $ky 4) get all the decisions going - yesterday rat features being yet another example

go figure

it's already there.

Why create an elite group of "professional" refs otherwise? If you check the TV games the majority are reffed by 4. Mike Dean,Howard Webb,Andre Marriner and Mark Clattenberg.

It can't be a co-incidence these get the most TV games.

Expect a miracle revival of the red dippers and rags now they've sorted their problems and a few more decisions against us.

I don't believe the league is corrupt. There are too many ex referees, players, directors or whoever around who would have written their books and made millions from the revelations by now, and it hasn't happened.

There have been some studies by sports psychologists over the years that point to referees favouring home teams, with some decisions being based on player, and more importantly, crowd reaction to incidents.

When you think about it, there must be more than footballing reasons that make it a statistical probability the home team will win the game.

Sometimes things go against your team, like a player rightfully being sent off after 4 minutes, and you just have to accept it as part of the game. It's hard, but it's football, and we love it when decisions go in our favour, don't we?

Mmmm...

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is winning his mind games with referees

Comments (0) Add to My Stories A look at the statistics for the season would tend to indicate that Arsene Wenger is winning his psychological battle with referees.
Arsenal’s opponents have been shown red cards four times in just nine games, resulting in the Gunners facing just 10 men for 215 minutes — more than a quarter of the time they have been on the pitch.
Your're going off, son: Mark Clattenburg sends off Dedryck Boyata on Sunday
And it is not just the red card statistics which favour Wenger’s team. They have already been awarded nine penalty kicks, five more than any other Premier League team!
HAPPY NOW, ARSENE?
Arsenal fans have seen plenty of penalties and red cards this season:

PENALTIES AWARDED
Arsenal: 9
Tottenham: 4
Chelsea: 4
Sunderland: 3
West Ham: 3

OPPONENTS' RED CARDS
(minutes missed)
Arsenal: 4 (215)
Wigan: 3 (148)
Birmingham: 3 (101)
Sunderland: 2 (80)
Liverpool: 2 (4)

OWN RED CARDS
(minutes missed)
Arsenal: 3 (35)
Bolton: 3 (80)
Sunderland: 2 (115)
Wolves: 2 (80)

Three teams have had no penalties while 14 teams have had two or fewer against the nine for Arsenal.
So what has happened, and is it all a coincidence?
Wenger has certainly raised referees’ awareness of the physical side of the game. Having watched Mark Clattenburg referee Arsenal’s latest game at the weekend, I was intrigued at the high number of decisions he had to make, both for and against Wenger’s men.
Six yellow cards and a penalty kick — all correct — but highly unusual in a season where referees have tended to try to manage situations rather than issue cards.
Wenger’s approach seems to have led to a greater intensity in Arsenal games, which have seen an incredible seven red cards out of a total of 16 in all Premier League matches; 44 per cent of dismissals in only 10 per cent of the fixtures.
There have been 12 penalties in Gunners’ games out of a total of 42, 29 per cent of all spot-kicks.

His players react to challenges in two ways: they expect the referee to act strongly, and they react
themselves. This led to four yellow cards in the first half on Sunday.
So despite Wenger often being derided for his calls for protection for his players, it would appear he is finally getting his wish for stronger refereeing — for and against his team.
Getting his way: Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger

100% its corrupt.

The press/media havent got the balls to call it out.

Arse have had to much go their way in the last few games alone let alone all season.
Gabriel should be on a 3 game ban.
Arse have scored 75% of their goals by fouling or blocking the keepers.

Pl have said they have a 6 year plan to have a different winner. That can ONLY happen if the authorities and refs decide the outcome of matches.

City have lost points when Donna has been held so have alot of clubs.

Arse are a fucking disgrace but the authorities are worst by fixing matches.

I wish I could walk away from football. But i love City to much.
In a sence I have partly walked away, I only watch City matches and sadly I have reduced the amount of time and money going to matches.
Why would I pay to see fake head injuries, 8 minuts of VAR to rule out a Haaland goal, WWF at corners, time wasting on goal kicks and throw ins, park the bus anti football teams.
Going to watch games is expensive, is the pl value for money ? NO.

I watch the snooker the other day Rock Ronnie said he would go for attacking shots because fans pay good money to be entertained. Football is total opposite dont give a shit about fans.

Is the pl bent 100% it is as Pep has hinted at lots of times "City win on our own"

There is too much money involved for it not to be, Sky TV control football and want there to be as much interest in their product as possible therefore they want to keep the clubs with the largest TV audiences at the top ie Utd, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal.

I also think this is the reason they are promoting the new Fifa ' financial fair play' rules, which lets be honest are probably the most unfair rules ever designed only to keep the bigger clubs at the top.

Do Sky have referee's on the payroll is the big question and the answer to this is it is possible but we will probably never find out and only be labelled as conspiracy theorists for even mentioning it.
Sky basically own the PL, and the PL own the referees.

Those that pay the money dictate the rules.
