Is Twitter taking over from Facebook?

The downside to Twitter is the "followers" competition where people just compete with each other to gain more followers.

I only want more Blues following our twitter so word spreads about the supporters club, taking me over a year to get 400 followers.

Yet little jimmy posts up some bullshit about Ronaldo seen at Manchester Airport and he instantly gets 10,000 followers.

So yea alot of bullshit is on Twitter, ALOT.

Same with facebook really, the amount of times I've seen someone I know personally offline having a big domestic with their brother, sister, mother, wife, girlfriend, yet the next day it's like this big professional PR campaign gets launched by themselves on Facebook showing how happy they are with pictures of everyone playing happy family.

The thing that I like is that the content is tailored to what I am interested in like football and industry specific stuff, whereas facebook has become like somewhere people like to boast or complain

I find that what get's posted here is enough for me, plenty of users like Ste and Ducado who will have the right follows and notify myself and other users who cba with fb and twitter.

Yes i have FB but not my choice, peer pressure.

I use both and my Twitter account is integrated on my Facebook so my Tweets (i.e. Gary Lineker is sat in First Class on the train) now appear as FB status updates. Interestingly, I know everyone I'm friends with on Facebook but many of my Twitter followers are complete strangers.

I'm the same...know fb friends, wouldn't know a twitter if they slapped me round the face with a giddy kipper!

I think both are wank. I have both but hardly use them, sometimes Twitter can be a decent read, but Facebook is gash. Why on earth would someone stand and take a photo of their dinner on the table just to show people. Eat the fucking thing you cunts, we know what food looks like!

Like it or not social media is here to stay. Whether it be for business, or pleasure many people enjoy the attention that these social networks provide.

Dont get twitter. Ye its good to see what city players are saying about the latest games etc... But why the fuck would I want to "follow" some random person. Why do I care what they do.

@jimmy.
Just ate breakfast. #yummy.

Wohoooooooo jimmy just ate breakfast. Buzzing my lifes complete. @jimmy what are you doing now, please tell me the Suspence is killing me.
You see, this is how to use Twitter wrongly (using a social networking site wrongly, how is that possible?). Quite simply, Facebook is utter rubbish. Brilliant if you like to sit at home in your undies, watching Jeremy Kyle whilst eating your Coco Pops - not so good if you're eating freshly cooked smoked salmon on bagels with Philadelphia cream cheese, washed down with your freshly squeeze orange juice.

Thinking about it, I retract my 'Facebook is rubbish' comment. Both have their pros. Facebook is brilliant if you're within the ages of 18 - 26. You can easily organise events, promote events, find people going to the same university as you before you arrive, communicate easily etc. So sure, it's great for the basic socialising, it doesn't however offer you anything truly thought provoking. You also need to put up with 'Jim' from high school who tells the world he had baked beans for breakfast (unless of course you don't care about feelings and reject the friend request - you heartless so and so!).

Twitter is my favourite now I'm starting to mature. I can channel the information I see, so I like football, graphic design and I'm about to start an advertising course at university - I follow people who tweet about interesting things about football, people who tweet about upcoming ad campaigns and other various things to do with it, people who tweet inspirational designs - you get the idea. I don't have to read about 'Jim' eating baked beans for breakfast.

Another thing, I don't need to scroll down for ages if someone has posted a mundane paragraph as a tweet (I follow a handful of friends on Twitter). The character limit means that many people write a short and sharp snip to get me interested followed by a link to the full article. Short and sweet information delivered to me on subjects I choose, what's not to like?

Bugger, forgot my usual signature when posting about Twitter - feel free to follow me https://twitter.com/lMattHurst

You have to pick and choose. You get rid of a lot of crap and find new ones which are funny.

This one's quite funny

@PhotoshopTroll

Like both. Find out if my favourite music artists are in the studio or gigging through Facebook. Also parties and night outs to attend. Plus get to see some top quality bikini photos of some of the young ladies I know ;)

Twitter for City stuff and winding up rags.
