Isco (merged)

True but the Benetiz sacking and the Zidane appointment has been on the cards for the last few weeks. Doesn't make sense that they were supposedly in advanced talks to sell him a few days prior to the change.

I guess that depends when the decision to sack Benitez was made. I know Graham Hunter is saying that call was made a few weeks ago, but he is still adamant that Guardiola wants to manage United rather than City so I wouldn't take it as gospel.

If Real won yesterday, rather than conceding a late equaliser, I think it's plausible that Benitez would've kept his job for now. It seems unlikely to me that Perez would've given Isco any guarantees about Benitez's future.

Perhaps... I just find it difficult to believe Real would even contemplate selling him in January.

Let's do a bit of mythbusting. We have gotten confirmation by multiple sources that Soriano met with Madrid's GM in Madrid. Other sources (Goal, Simon Mullock via the Mirror, and the Daily Mail have all said that we were locked in talks. MCRJON has said we were in advanced talks. it seems to me that there has to be something involving Isco going on. if they weren't willing to sell Madrid's GM would have told Ferran, and we wouldn't have even tried to talk with them.

Oh dear god I am in denial

That was always true regardless of manager and to quote Pellegrini -

"I didn't have a voice or a vote at Madrid. They sign the best players, but not the best players needed in a certain position. It's no good having an orchestra with the 10 best guitarists if I don't have a pianist. Real Madrid have the best guitarists, but if I ask them to play the piano they won't be able to do it so well. He [Pérez] sold players that I considered important.

I don't think Zidane would have control of player sales anyway.

Selling him in January was always weird, yet your source and others thought it was definitely on. Zidane can't fit Isco in that team, he doesn't control the transfers, and Isco may well be weary of being convinced by Zidane again anyway.

ill remain cautiously optimistic.

If Iscos decision now is to stay and play under Zidane I hope City tell him it was his last chance to sign for us. I don't want us to be an option B for players. Exactly the kind of players we don't need. You want to play for us or not.

I think Isco has lost his place in the Spanish national squad and its the European Championships this Summer.

If it's Isco who is pushing for this move then maybe it depends on whether Zidane is prepared to assure him of a place in his team. He needs regular football if he's going to play for Spain. He'd get that here. We know Zidane persauded him to go to Real madrid but presumably he did that for Toni Kroos, James etc. They can't all play. Perhaps the next clue is whether Isco is recalled to the first team for Real Madrid.
