Why would Thiago be the contingency plan when he's a completely different type of midfielder to Isco? It would represent a totally scattergun transfer strategy if he was the 'fall-back' option. A realistic contingency plan will be another attacking midfielder who can play on the left side (Reus, Bernard).

It seems to me that we as City fans are not looking at ourselves as being a club capable of beating Real Madrid to a players signature.
