Isnt it time cops had guns ?

No.

The vast majority of officers share the same opinion. As said, routinely arming officers will not prevent gun crime and,in fact, may even encourage it.

Besides,i wouldn't trust many officers with their baton let alone a firearm.

We have the best Police service in the world, for good reason.

Not all no, i think everyone has seen at least one thug with a badge who would be dangerous with a spud gun.

I think we should maintain strict rules on competency to be an armed copper.

Giving the police guns will not stop them getting shot, a gun does not put an anti-bullet force field around them.

Giving an officer a gun is likely to make them over confident of dealing with a situation alone and subsequently getting shot rather than calling for backup.

By far and above the best tool for a police officer to use is communication.

what about those 2 female officers who were called to a house in Manchester and were killed last year ?

if I was a cop and I found myself face to face with some loony with a knife in some back alley Id want to have a gun.

If I was a cop and I found myself face to face with some loony in some back alley, I'd rather enjoy the knowledge that neither of us have guns than both of us.

You're talking about the introduction of what... 100,000 firearms to our shores?

I'm rather happy with the way things are. The police know that their job carries an element of risk, it's part and parcel of the work they do. But their primary objective should be geared towards the protection of individuals/people and not the state. Introducing guns wouldn't protect the people, and in a lot of ways could do more harm than good.

How many innocent people do you think would have died in the past 10 years compared to now had the police carried guns?

you seem to think you live a safer place because your police are unarmed, would you say Australia is a more dangerous place than Britain because the cops do carry guns ?

Answer my question.
