a member of my family is in the English Poilce force

but 80% of the British police have told you they don't want guns...

...a point which, despite being made at least half a dozen times on this thread our ex-pat friend singularly chooses to ignore.
I know - let's bring in legislation to force coppers who don't want guns to carry them anyway, in a country where most folk don't want them to be armed, a country which has lower incidences of violent crime than those where police are routinely armed, simply because some bloke 12,000 miles away think it would make them feel safer.
I think that the Australian government should tell Chinese mining companies to fuck off and stop digging up half the country.
Perhaps I should start a thread about it on an Aussie rules football website?

I'm rather happy with the way things are. The police know that their job carries an element of risk, it's part and parcel of the work they do. But their primary objective should be geared towards the protection of individuals/people and not the state. Introducing guns wouldn't protect the people, and in a lot of ways could do more harm than good.

so re the two female officers that were murdered, you dont agree that had they had guns they could well still be alive ?

GMP have armed units that should have been sent to that house.
The thick fuckers sent 2 coppers with no intelligence or warning about the nutter inside. He opened the door and blasted them. They wouldn't have had a chance to get a gun out, never mind fire it.
If armed, creggan could've taken their guns while they were helpless and gone on a rampage.
I won't bother mentioning the grenades he had.

Stoner.I suggest you rephrase that because those so called thick cunts are my colleagues. I know the radio operators who were on duty that day. You know the sum total of fuck all in reality to what actually happened. When you have been a radio operator for 15yrs in GMP like I have ,then come back to me and tell me I don't know my job or my colleagues don't know there job! I think it's quite a positive thing that we have unarmed police. I also think many visitors and other countries find that impressive.

Despite the majority of the Police do a fine job, from experience in previous roles there are some bobbies who really shouldn't be given a sidearm!

Why I hear you ask..Because she is a cop and accepts the risks involved. Being armed doesn't prevent scum bags like Cregan doing what they do.

My thoughts exactly! These incidents are extremely rare. The escalation under armed policing would be much worse if police were armed than the rare tragic events that occur under unarmed policing.
