Issues surrounding Barca

The answer to Barca's issues is a fairly simple one. Spend some money and buy some bleedin' defenders! Puyols is old, injured and on the decline, Pique is a good player, but where's the other centre halves? Mascherano is a midfielder doing a job for them back there, this Barta guy looks average, Adriano isn't a centre half either. They have no defenders at all, and never seem to address the issue.

If I were Barca I'd be doing everything I could to get Kompany. He'd suit them down to the ground. Excellent defender but also good with the ball at his feet. He's fit seamlessly into their tactics and sure up the defence for them.

sssshhhhhh as a Moderator you should know better ;)

people under-estimate the ability of pep.

it's shown since he left.

Agreed. I've always thought Barca wouldn't be the same without him and it's showing now. He may have lost against this Bayern too, but not in such a way.

Barcelona have a very promising defender called Marc Muniesa, who they had high hopes of, but he suffered a cruciate ligament injury in preseason, and hasn't featured at all. They really missed a trick not signing Thiago Silva last summer. Hummels could be on his way there.

The midfield is fine, but they need more attacking options. Villa just hasn't been the same since his leg break, and he's not getting any younger, Sanchez is inconsistent, and Pedro's been patchy. This might speed up their plans to get Neymar now, rather than waiting until after the 2014 WC.

I'll put it into context - Barca were out played and out classed by a much better team!

and playing 8 additional games had no effect?

i'd say they need a world class centre half and striker.

plus a good centre half and attacker for back up.

age, staleness, plus nothing new to offer. The game against Celtic was a big clue to how the wheels were coming off. Messi's phenominal goal tally has almost won the league, i reckon Europe needs a much higher energy level, which means young players.

To all who have posted on this post, Barcelona have played 8 more competitive games than the German rags. Maybe not 13, but certainly not 5, 8 more games. They looked knackered in the first leg and more so in the 2nd. This is the nonsense of European football. Munich have manipulated their league so that they have a distinct advantage in europe due to reducing the size of Bundesliga. They have the state propping up football and the scum that is Bayern Munich want to remain so. Who will competed with them in German football? They stand for everything that is wrong in football, self interest, elitism, bigotry and corruption, as the average none Munich football supporter what they think. They are hated on an unparallelled level, the Gotze transfer being the latest example of how they do things.
Where do you read that nonsense? Seriously? Is their some sort of football conspiracy theory website where someone makes up stuff and sells it to guys like you? I really hope you didn't get robbed in your delusion.

The only year the Bundesliga played with more than 18 teams was in 91/92 after the German Reunification. The idea was to allow 4 teams from East Germany in and have 4 teams relegated (usual 2 were relegated and a 3rd team played relegation playoffs vs the 3rd best team from the lower league), so that those teams didn't have to fight their way back to the top. It had fuck all to do with Bayern.

Really who suggested the new format and was most vocal?
What new format? It's been the same since 1965 with that one exception in 91/92.

A squad with players like barca - 8 games should mean nothing! - They are paid top money to be the best at what they do in the world, and i would like to think that these lads are fit enough to play a decent number of games over the period of season, even if that means 2 games a week FFS!
