It’s finally online-the Peter Swales video we’ve been waiting for P31

Franny had one thing in mind when he took over: Franny
Agreed but he didn't cling on like Swales did. Swales was keeping us small time when the money started rolling into football. City was more to Swales that it was to Lee. It game him everything. He would have clung on forever just to keep his place at the FA. Lee pretty much walked away when he knew the game was up.
Don't know what Franny's role was in getting us the new stadium but without it we definitely wouldn't be where we are today.

A move to the Etihad under Swales was highly unlikely seeing how he downgraded City and Maine Road and the financial mess we were in that made it impossible to fund the convertion of the athletics stadium to a football one.

A more likely scenario was a ground sharing at Boundary Park with him and his mate Ian Stott at Oldham divying up the proceeds from Maine Road with the eventual merging of clubs to form Manchester Athletic. Stott and Swales could then pronounce themselves the blue saviours of football in Manchester and rewarded by the FA with sinecures for life.

That’s a great shout, as much as I loved Kevin Keegan, I was gutted when we lost Bernstein, as I saw him, probably the first chairman (in my lifetime) who I had the utmost confidence in, a man of true integrity who knew what it took to steady the ship and get it moving in the right direction, was a big loss imo.
Wasn’t he there at Wembley in 2011 as head of the FA to hand over the FA Cup?

Sounds like a ludicrous plan now but I wouldn't have put it past Swales. That is why Franny taking the club off Swales was essential.

I seem to recall he had a pretty decent world cup in Spain and then we got the bombshell that he was being flogged to Sampdoria for 800,000 to pay for the Maine Stand roof, i think the average went down by 8000 the following season when he was effectively replaced by a past it David Cross and Chris Jones on a freebie from Spurs. The inevitable happened that season.
Bloody hell,i dont remember Chris Jones playing for us ?
