My recollection is that Swales died before the Liverpool relegation game in 96 and that their was a minute's silence, led by that turncoat Vince Miller, where the crowd was virtually begged not to disrupt it.

My memory is that it was impeccably observed.

However, I also have a memory of a chant of "dig him up" going around. Obviously that's in bad taste and both couldn't have happened (unless the chant was during the match).

How much of that, if any, is true and how kuchen is bollocks?

Don’t forget Swales was also in charge of the FA International committee for decades and was ultimately responsible for appointing the manager. He did what he did for club & country, more‘s the pity!

Never knew he had a Nottingham accent until relatively recently. Always assumed he had a North East accent. He’s actually from a pretty anodyne Nottinghamshire town called Stapleford, locally known by the delightful name of ‘Stabbo’.

Played against us for Notts County in that infamous 2-3 defeat.

I am far more enthralling and impressive than Peter Swales so it’s hardly a surprise. You just need to introduce a filter at the bottom end and you’ll be fine.
