It’s finally online-the Peter Swales video we’ve been waiting for P31

Love the shot of him against a wooden wall, fluttering his eyelashes like he was Di asking Will Carling if he was good for a ruck.

All whilst a tiny picture of him got lost in the background.

Didn't realise PJS had record shops, what normal person would buy from him rather than Woolworths?

I suspect Steve Coogan is indebted to the ol' Brillo pad head!
He had a store on George Street in Altrincham I remember.

Don’t forget Swales was also in charge of the FA International committee for decades and was ultimately responsible for appointing the manager. He did what he did for club & country, more‘s the pity!

Is there any truth in a story I read that Swales stopped Tony Coton getting any England caps, because it would have meant he had to pay more money to Watford due to a clause agreed when signing Coton??

No. Swales attended a supporters meeting at The Chadderton Arms the night before an England game, (he was Chairman of the FA selectors committee or something) he told us that Tony Coton would make his debut for England the next evening… he didn’t though!

Was he even a City fan? I remember him being co-chairman at Alti with Noel white but was he actually a Blue as a kid?

Notice the league cup behind him after winning it the year before all down hill after that!

Swales is heart was in the right place but he ruined our club set us back decades..
Swales was in it for himself. He was a greedy jumped up twat who nearly killed off a great football club. Franny got so many things wrong but if he hadn't wrestled the club out of that slimey bastards hands we would probably be Coventry City or far worse by now

Let's not forget that football back then was very much like this, and not only at Manchester city
most football clubs back then were not being run like a business, and it was more about the paying fans turning up that paid the wages, little to nothing in sponsorship, again little to nothing from TV it was bloody hard

yes, Peter Swales was running the show for a long time and got most things wrong, but you could never say he didn't back Malcolm Allison plans with major money for the rebuild, let's be honest here Allison was blowing smoke up Swales bum with his ideas, in fact Tony Book had built a very good team a good mix of youth and very good players that was pushing Liverpool for the title and won the league cup,

whatever went on with Swales, bringing back Malcolm Allison to replace Tony book as manager was the real reason why the club went down hill from there, Malcolm Allison must have had something on Swales and the worst decision ever at Manchester city was made

Franny didnt do it, in my opinion , the fans did, although it took us 2 decades

Oversaw City going from one of the big clubs in the country to a shambles that eventuated in us plummeting to the third tier.

In the five years before Swales came to City, we’d won 5 trophies. That was the most in the country in those five years by any club (Leeds were second to us in those 5 years with 4 trophies, nobody else won more than 2).

In the 1970s, only four clubs managed to get two consecutive seasons averaging over 40,000 spectators: United, Liverpool, Everton and City.

We had the biggest football stadium in the north of England from 1923 to the 1980s. Through the 90s, we built a stand behind one end that was smaller than Stockport’s Cheadle End and knocked a stand down that held 22,000 (that at one time held 36,000) and replaced it with a stand that held 11,000.

To see where we ended up come the late 90s was down to his mismanagement of the club. I’m sure he never intended to cause such a downward spiral of such a great club, but he did.

And in the eyes of the rest of the football world, we aren’t seen as the once great club who had a few bad decades and are now back to being a great club again. We are seen as a club that was a shambles with no history and no fans who have got to a false position as a club that’s undeserved. And that’s down to what Swales did to this club.
That last paragraph is so true. Well put sir.
