It’s Quiet 20 - What is the Wirtz that could happen?

Clubs claiming they have problems recruiting in January, often comes because they are desperate, and can not afford what they want. That could be us but it is not, we do not need a superstar for DM we just need mobility, there are 100s of players that could fill the spot, temporary or permanent, and we can play them all of against each other.

Yes but if you spend more than you intend in January, it has a knock-on effect on your summer plans. It's not always about being able to afford. You have to take account of FFP and PSR.

Playing in midfield in a Pep team is very difficult. Under Pep, literally every midfielder we have signed has struggled for at least a year. The position is the focal point of the team. The player who brings balance to all positions on the pitch. He has to be press resistant and not just defensively minded.

This whole mess with the squad lies at the feet of Pep. Not Txixi/Soriano. Club clearly wanted to refresh the squad last summer but he vetoed as he has admitted. What he saw different than the rest is what I'm still trying to understand. It doesn't take away anything from what he's done for us so far but aren't we paying dearly for it and how.

We need at least two midfielders through the door this window alone, and a bigger clearout for the summer, only Foden and Rodri should still be here of the current lot. That's how bad our midfield is right now.

All the works with the 3 in so far will be for nothing if there are no new midfielders....Long rest of the season ahead.
He is a bit of a muppet, Pep, that we all know already.
the irony will be lost @Coatigan I can't believe that one poor run and some posters have their knives out for Pep. They can run a club and team so much better than our owners and managers eh? :-)

Yep let’s fuck Pep off and bring in Edwin Fucking Edwin. I mean what has Pep ever done for us?

Think we are stuck between a rock and a hard place. We need midfielders but Pep and the board are clearly struggling to find somebody who we can get in January that will be good enough for the next 3 or 4 years.

I feel like Douglas Luiz is one that could be done quite easily but the hold off is us trying to find somebody else.

I think he might even be a smokescreen rather than a fall back.

We can do this.

This splurge into the transfer market is a clear sign that the Club know they fucked up big time in the summer.

It is, yet we still haven’t addressed the two major issues; no fullbacks or athletic midfielder.

Now we have three signed and Cambiaso is our only credible link there is more to talk about. It’s like a new window within a window.

It takes a lot to get a transfer over the line but now we have the last third of the window to concentrate on the Midfield.

I’m more than hopeful. No links so far won’t change that. We were saying no links for the first week and now we have 3 in.

Patience required.

City are not going to spend more than we can afford, (it will most likely come from our next summer transfers though.) That is what happens when you are desperate for 1 player, we should have a list, a long list, since virtually every agent will be desperate to get their player here, with the threat of FFP/PSR about.
Systems we have played before, are unlikely to be played next season, as almost none of the present players can play them.

This lies solely at the feet of the Premier League and their puppet masters.

City appear to have thought twice about such huge outlays in the summer, due to the uncertainty of the hearing.

It seems a tad too coincidental that since summer, there have been nothing but "positive rumours" about the outcome and now the club decide to splurge.

We all know who should and would have left.

The financial attack on the Club has done it's job in (hopefully temporarily) stunting the club's continued progress.

Looks very like this is the case, reckon we could be waiting until our place in the CL play offs is secure before committing to a big mf deal.

Possible, but though Im hoping to be surprised I can’t see which big mf deal would be possible this month. We all want one but there are no names really being bandied about

No it doesn't and that was my point. People make it sound like it is as easy as that. In reality, it is not.

I am not arguing it is impossible either, to be clear. But if the club aren't signing midfielders, I trust them in thinking the right one isn't available or affordable, rather than just assuming they are lazy or incompetent or simply not trying. Which I know you did not suggest btw, but many have.
Haven't seen anyone said its easy

I would trust the club if it wasn't a glaring issue that we've had for 3 years

Again, a Rodri backup isn't new to us and shouldn't be to these guys that 'know what they are doing' so it's not a case that this should be a panic buy

The fact a buy is thought of as a panic buy just shows how badly we've dropped the ball

Surely there are an army of agents and reps currently hustling x20 to get their DMs on the radar of City..?

most DMs of required quality will be key lads where they are. doubtful club or players are pushing to jump ship

Oh do grow up. Every team has a dip - but after what we’ve achieved in the last 10 years - suck it up for a short while will you
