Blimey, would take any three of this lot as they're exactly what we're currently lacking in midfield.

Who would you take if given the choice?

Gonzalez or Varela would probably be the safer option due to their experience & they also seem quite skilful when in position. However, Essugo looks like a real intriguing if not raw prospect. Probably not for us at this moment in time but could be a real Brighton-type acquisition, especially someone to learn from Rodri. His power, pace & interceptions really stand out & currently playing at a higher standard in La Liga as opposed to the Portuguese league.
I'd be guided by Delphino and go for Essugo with his 45m release.

all three of em supposedly have one, will probably need to overpay on essugo this window to get him out of that loan.

Get Nico now, send Nunes back to sporting in summer for Essugo. :) #fantasyfootballiseasy

Hows this place going to cope if we don't get a midfielder?

Pep has already hinted that if he had all defenders back fully fit then he'd play Akanji and Stones in midfield.

Thing is though, IF he’s decided to replace Bernie, Gundo and Kova that’s a proper planning job and not one you just get done in January. We might well have to resign ourselves to a transitional season (possibly 2) and get the midfield sorted in the summer.
The obvious reasons for waiting are prices, availability and, with the best will in the world, whether we’ll get the full version of Rodri back..

Personally I’m more concerned by how the team will cope if we don’t add another midfielder. I think Wednesday night showed us what will happen if we don’t, although you may have seen things differently.

Akanji isn’t good enough on the ball to play midfield, Stones can’t stay fit. So neither of them offer a solution.

Spot on

The meltdown on social media is quite something after that Hirst article was published.

Think people should wait till 3rd Feb when the window shuts to be frustrated personally.

Hirst? whats he said?

Hirst? whats he said?
"Whether Guardiola moves for Éderson or another of their midfield targets will depend to an extent on how John Stones plays in the coming week. The England defender, and Manuel Akanji, have been highlighted as possible holding-midfield options. If that trial works, the midfield pursuit is likely to be put on hold until the summer."

Yet if there was a possibility of that being the case, we presumably wouldn’t have just bought two young defenders. There must now be serious doubts as to what the aforementioned can deliver in the remainder of their respective contracts, and we also have question marks over the continued fitness of Dias and Akanji. Guardiola has now had 26 games to arrive at a solution, and it increasingly looks as if it lies outside of the Etihad.

Irrespective of whether the solution arrives in this window, though, this forum will continue to resemble our midfield: all over the place.

Tbf I think pep may bave read the article prior to the press conference today as he was a right moody sod

Yeah probably bollocks. The club still believing we have the answers within the squad, when we evidently dont judging by results and performances in the last months, seems to silly to be true.
Which makes me believe it most likely isn't true.

Pep has even been quoted saying they want a holding midfielder.
