Go and overpay for a top midfielder not already at an elite club. Do not spend money you think is a bargain if the player is bang average. We’ve done enough of that with the midfield past few years.

True. But I still find it hard to believe there isn’t a good young player with legs that is technically good that we can’t bring in. Someone similar to Gravenberch. When they signed him plenty said he wasn’t good enough (partly due to his struggles at Munich). That’s proved to be wrong.

If we don't get anyone then Khusanov should play RB as he's a better defender than Nuñes and the latter should play in midfield as at least he's got legs.
Nunes certainly has the legs, really wants to prove himself and can be good defensively. I just worry about him in tight spaces either on the ball or expecting the ball.

Wolves level players are not what we should be aiming for, however.

Ffs. When the likes of Wolves and Brighton sign promising players that turn out to be great and go for big money, people moan that we should have snapped them up first before that. But when we are linked with such players, people moan we shouldn't aim for players of that level. Doomed FC.

I don't think a single Brighton player of the last 5 years has been proven to be good enough for us.

Caicedo would get in our team right now, but not the Treble winning team, or really any team from 2017 to 2024.

The standards at midtable clubs are much lower than ours, so their best players look like they're outperforming.

If we don't sign a DM, I can only assume that Rodri is going to be back a lot quicker than we think.

Granted, he will take some time to get back to speed, but maybe he's going to be playing 30 mins for a few games in March and the decision makers think that this is good enough.

I don’t think any of them have been good enough, including Nunes. Some can be back ups, squad fillers, but that’s not what we should be aiming for. Do Real Madrid sign players from mid table clubs?
