Baleba would be a 100m plus, huge risk, Caseido looked so ordinary on Saturday, beware with some of the Brighton players, look good in a team playing once a week with no pressue, 3 times a week and expectation is very different.
Baleba is very much the flavour of the month at the moment, especially given he plays a position we desperately need.

I think Caicedo and Fernandez at Chelsea are both good examples of why chucking £100m+ at someone who is trendy at the time with their form/ceiling being based on a relatively small period of time is not necessarily a good idea.

You make the point already but I agree. With all due respect, looking good in a Brighton team with that level of pressure and expectation is one thing. The demands any player would have playing for City are totally different and on another level. Any player being signed for £100m+ would be expected to slot straight in, make a difference and would be jumped on very quickly if they don't look like world beaters.

Surely it’s either Brighton are playing twice a week and City play three times a week or Brighton play once a week and City play twice a week?

It can’t be City play 3 times to Brighton’s 1 time.

Whatever, but playing for Brighton and then playing for is is a very different thing and requires a very different mindset, it's not all about ability, mentality is a very underrated trait.

Total agree, and something I liked about Khusanov, shocking first 10 minutes that would have destroyed many a player but he battled through and showed huge mental strength which makes his future look bright for me.

Totally agree on your point, it just reminded me of the famous bodybuilding forum thread where two people argued about how many days were in a week.

Baleba is your midfielder for the next decade plus. I think it’s pretty obvious he is going straight to the top.

I rate Bruno and 27 isn’t old (coming into prime) but I think when your midfield is ageing already, dropping £100m on him doesn’t seem like the best choice from a squad building perspective.
From what I have seen in the 20+ times I've seen Baleba play nothing says this is a 100m player right now, even at 50m I would say its a gamble. Talented sure, but it's not like he even stands out like the best player in a mid table team like Brighton. If he was 27 I doubt many would even consider him as an option based on what he offers right now. In my opinion it's far from certain he will develop into a top player in this league. Caicedo looked way better when he was in Brighton and Luiz looked better at Villa.
With that said, he is young and who knows how good he can become. But if we are going to spend 100m on someone, it should be more about how good they are right now rather than a guess of how good they can become.

Not entirely sure thats true mate, could be the system, players around him etc? Luiz was one of Villa`s best players when in England and he was also a player Pep wanted to keep?
That was a long time ago though. He suited Villa but I don’t think would solve anything now or we would buy him.

Juve cannot wait to get rid of him and they paid what £50 mill for him?

People think the overwhelming problem is getting legs in midfield so somebody can charge around and get stuck in. Maybe that would help a tiny bit in some games agreed but it’s far from the answer.

Gundo has never had to cover the distance we are asking him to now. He hasn’t aged overnight. Everyone looks tired because we aren’t keeping the ball in midfield…just look at the PSG game and the passing stats..it’s not like us.

Luiz doesn’t help with the solution, he is a sticking plaster at best. The sooner we find players to play the way we want to the better as we aren’t designed for charging about. Any move for Luiz would be an admission that we have failed to find anyone. If we have to I’d keep to our principles and suffer or even try Nico there.

We are going to need a Gundo replacement and a very good DM anyway because the former will most likely leave in the Summer and we can’t have no answer to Rodri getting injured again.

Not signing another DM, and bringing Gundo back not knowing that Rodri was going to get a season ending injury was,in hindsight, two errors. We still have those fundamental errors and Luiz isn’t better than what we have unless we are admitting we are going to play differently.

Kimmich, despite his age, would improve us much more because he keeps the ball under pressure annd is intelligent and Florian would be a dream as another CM. Neither of which we are odds on to get this Window but I’m sure we are still looking.

The Luiz stories are primarily coming from Juve and the player’s agent. I doubt Juve would loan him even if we went along with the charade. We aren’t buying him thank god so it looks like a none story to me right now.

Leverkusen wanting Mcatee, if the lad isnt going to get any game time here then maybe use in a deal for Palacios?
They've been interested since summer and we've pursued no one they have, doubt it happens now.

That’s the great thing about football - we all have different opinion. I’d pay up for him tomorrow.

It’s not that I don’t rate Luiz, he doesn’t move the needle much at all.

True but maybe now he has asked to go and with his contract up in 2026 (i think) then it may be the time to do something?
they just want him on loan with an option, take a hell of a deal to switch that to a swap for a key squad player. 5% chance even if city probably entertain letting him go.,

We did try and sign him
Had chelsea not come in and bid silly money, his agent and the player probably would have pushed the price down over time to a point Tixiki could also compromise. Romano was at the time convinced it would happen, and so were others on the back of that. Including the bookies.
