Said in the Wharton thread that I doubt we will be able to get a Wharton or a Bruno and Wirtz.

Not when we need a right back, a goalkeeper or two and maybe a winger to replace Jack.

I don't think we will ever see a natural overlapping fullback like a Kolarov, Zabba until Pep finally calls it a day.

I think he wants Cambiaso because he can play left back, right back, come into central midfield etc.

I agree we may well only bring in one midfielder,of the 3 you named though think Wharton is the most likely, especially if Grealish leaves because it a squad spot that easier to fill than a spot on the free list.

We dont need a player to replace grealish -he has alreday been replaced outwide with Doku, Sav and even Marmoush

We have had scouts watching him since his Malmö days more than 25 times. So I am sure we have good understanding of his ability and trajectory. If you compare him to Rodri, DeBruyne etc at the same age 20. Do you think they were further along? Larsson has been a key midfielder for a top 5 side in Germany for the past 2 seasons.

Also our track record is pretty good from Germany. The last bad signing we had from there was probably Eike Immel. Then we have had Rösler, Tarnat, deJong, Kompany, Dzeko, Denruyne, Sane, Gundogan and Akanji. Compare that to the dross we have signed from the PL.

Boateng was an absolute fanny, but I agree with the general thrust of your argument

What we absolutely need is central midfielders who can create and score....KDB and Gundo are absolutely finished at the top level. Any thoughts about those 2 players in particular playing a central part in our team next season is purely based on their past achievements. If we retain those two players and dont replace them we deserve to be outside the top 6 next season.

How we replace them is of course very difficult but thats what Khaldoon, Viana and Pep get paid the big money for. Wirtz is one of the obvious choices and for me he is the best choice. BUT I also accept that its very unlikely so there has to be a very clear plan B...the lad from Brighton (Baleba) is another one - again exceptionally hard to get I would imagine. I do like Wharton as well bt he is more of a project player - looks good but again hyped up by the media to be better than he is....can he get to the level required, yes but he aint anywhere near it yet.

So your backup to Wirtz and to replace goals and assists for De Bruyne and Gundogan is sign Baleba and Wharton, neither of which have those skills at all. Right.

No not at all

Im really not sure on Wharton at all...like i said he looks decent but not for the money we would have to pay for him

Baleba is more to add some dynamism to our midfield

Wirtz - I would love him here....but I dont think its going to happen and Ive no idea who we go for instead of him....

What we do need is those others to start assisting and scoring more (Sav, Doku in particular and hopefully Marmoush)

The odd thing is that this seems very anti to what Pep would normally do - Sav and Doku dont seem typical Pep players imho (and I do like both of them) - I do wonder what Pep is thinking - is he going to have a bit of a shift in style of play to try and combat the huge intensity increase we have seen across the prem? - its become even more physical than previous which weirdly his style and dominance of the prem has caused....how now does he react? - stick with his methods or does he adapt - Ive no idea really
 
That’s a nice link. Been a fan of MGW for a while. Very good mates with Foden too (godfather to his kids I think?).

Great player, always been an admirer of him since he was at Wolves.

Would like to know where Ornstein is quoted on this as he hasn't tweeted about it.
