Just had a bit of txt banter between myself and my red mate (he goes, and was born and raised 200 miles away from Manchester with no relatives anywhere near!)

I txt him saying 'I reckon Arsenal are on for the double' and he said 'If they win anything it will be a disgrace' which got me thinking.

They've been easily beaten by United and Chelsea 3-0 at there own ground and we gave them a seeing to (goal wise) at ours.

But they didn't lose at Wigan and they certainly didn't get spanked 3-0 at Fulham, nor lose at Burnley.

So the question is - what is worse between losing to the big boys badly or slipping up against the shite in the league?

I'm sure I will be corrected if wrong, but didn't the rags have a pretty terrible record last year against the rest of the sky 4, but still won the league? So overall I don't think it matters too much, lose anything over a handful of games (whoever they are against) and usually the top spot will be out of reach. We tend to struggle against the bottom sides (or have done in the past) but have always been capable of a result against the title-chasers.

The so called "big boys" account for 6 of your 38 games (18 points) so I would say it matters very little.

The teams that most people would class at "shit" would probably be the bottom 10 teams (30 points).

Games like Fulham, Burnley, Stoke & Wigan away are never going to be easy, as we always find out!

I think maybe it was Leeds that won the league one season without beating anyone in the top 5(including us giving them a spanking at Maine Rd), however the bottom-line is its about what you do against everyone not just the best sides.

Some cock on the sunday supplement said the other week that 'if Arsenal win the league it will be by default', which was a terrible insult and a really shit thing to say. Fact of the matter is that when arse play rags or chelsea it's men against boys and arsenal are usually outdone. They got spanked off the rags and chelsea this season and would do most times they play them. Arsenal have mostly been too good to be bullied off the lesser teams however, and with them palying great football week in week out they've outclassed most opposition and msot teams can't come close to them

It's been a weird season and it wouldn't surprise me if the 3rd best team in the league won it

uniteds record against the big 4 has been pretty poor over the last few seasons but they win all the other games basically. thats how they win titles.

You've hit the nail on the head there - their record against Arsenal, Liverpool, and Chelsea last year was every bit as poor as Arsenal's this season against the Rags, Liverpool, and Chelsea. However, the Rags were the ultimate flat-track bullies last season - of their 24 games home and away against the bottom 12 teams, they won 23 and drew just 1.

If Arsenal do win the league this season and any Rags moan about it because they didn't take enough points off the Sky 4 then they'll prove themselves to be hypocritical bastards with a more selective memory than even I could imagine.

Last season, out of a possible 18 points the the rags took 5 from the other 3 teams in the top 4. They took 85/96 from the other 16.

So even less points than Arsenal have taken this season. Makes the argument by the Rag that the OP was referring to even more laughable.

However as much as I hate to say it, 85 out of 96 points against the other 16 teams is very impressive but that's a different argument altogether.

There's something very Man United about that comment - "it would be a disgrace".

I'd go so far as to say only a Man Utd fan could say that.

In what way would it be a "disgrace"? Disgraceful to who or what?

If Arsenal get the most points then they win the league. Man United haven't got a divine right to it, contrary to what their fans think.

The team with the most points deserves to win.

Only exception is huge amounts of bad luck like awful injuries or a string of dreadful refs. Who you beat doesn't matter because everyone plays everyone twice.

just proves the point all rags are tossers ! we outplayed them at the theatre of muppets but a diaby own goal and dodgy penalty awarded to rooney cost us the game . we have both last the same amount of games so does not really matter who you lose to does it ? as far us being lightweight this season ? any team would look lightweight with the amount of injuries we have had ! believe we would have put up a better show against them both if we had van persie fit. the team with the most points at the end of the year deserves to win the title . end of .

Plus a bit of help from various referees and their dodgy stop watches and a fungus fearing FA and associated arse licking ex players who are now other premiership managers

It would be a travesty if Arsenal won the league. They're literally Liverpool, but instead of having Gerrard and Torres, they have Fabregas and Arshavin. They are nowhere near good enough to win anything this year.

United winning the league would be a travesty for obvious reasons, and that they are being carried by Wayne Rooney.

Chelsea, for me, are the only team left that are 'worthy' of winning the league, although you don't get there by rights. So let's see which team fares better over the rest of the season.

a travesty ? why ? think your talking bollocks saying we are literally liverpool ! not saying we will win it but if we do its down to the character and mental toughness and the belief shown by wenger when everyone else was knocking him , still loads of arsenal fans still saying he should leave at the end of the season , mugs the lot of em who say that . to be champions you need a slice of luck here and there and the character to rise above any adversity thrown at you over the season and we have certainly shown that , started the season off with nasri breaking his leg in the first training session of the pre season , clichy ruled out for months , gibbs ruled out for half a season , van persie the same , now ramsey , fabregas also been out , have been down and out twice after losing to the rags and chelsea home and away yet we are still hanging on in there . proud to be arsenal and always will be :) am still hoping that we win it , you finish fourth and the rags end up empty handed apart from the three handled cup of course !
