It's Not All Doom and Gloom

After the debacle at OT last season there was similar widespread talk of us finishing outside the top 4 and Pellers having lost the plot yet we won the last 6 games to finish 2nd.

I think the situation's worse this time but if we somehow were to win 6 and draw 2 of the remaining games to finish 3rd and we also manage to reach the CL SF how would you rate this season. I'd have it as just about acceptable. Yes there are one or two big ifs in there but it's not a long shot by any means.

A lot can happen in 2 months. Finishing 3rd, reaching the CL SF and winning the League Cup in what could be considered a transitional season wouldn't be a disaster.

Chin up.

If if if....looking at our form this team is more likely to lose 6 of the next games.

Unfortunately it is all doom and gloom, for this season anyway

The players are totally lacking in confidence and this is most evident in front of goal where any chances are being snatched at and therefore missed.

This is a management issue and so the responsibility is firmly at Pellegrini's door. It is his responsibility to prepare the players to play and he is clearly failing.

If he remains I cannot see any improvement in our form and we will definitely slide down the table.
That's true, but KDB is a very influential player. I don't think it's completely delusional to expect his return to have some impact. Aguero will click again at some point

I agree Pellegrini is entirely to blame although injuries have made matters worse. You see how good a manager is when the team is stressed and he's made some ridiculous decisions

De Bruyne is our most influential player.

Otamendi will be back and surely Pellegrini will have learned something from this game. I thought Utd really rode their luck.
Has he ever shown signs of learning from mistakes in the past 30-odd months?

Yes they are. Zabaleta has gone backwards a bit but he has had bad injuries. Silva is suffering in a midfield that is very poor. He's on his own whereas the midfield used to be a proper unit with movement and quick passing.
I'd agree on both counts. Still can't wind back their ages, though. I can see how Silva might still be numero uno, but Zab will have a battle in my opinion. The GPC was ruthless in his time at the swamp, we have to learn to be the same.

I keep seeing people say we've been crap after the first 5 games. Can I just say we've been crap since the first 4. We were dog shit against Palace and got a last minute winner. Oh and preseason we were utter wank. So I make it 6/7 very good games all season. The rest average to shite.

Looking back, Ferguson’s most impressive characteristic was his obsessive desire for more success.

Even as they were were parading the trophy, he would be moaning about the penalty they didn’t get, whilst constantly assessing which of his players were perhaps celebrating too much, and not focussing on the next challenge.

We’ve had none of that at City. Instead, we’ve aged together, looking stale, sterile, and lacklustre. We’re too slow with Yaya, but look clueless without him. Silva looks a shadow of his former self, and all the time, there’s a sense of total apathy.

I can’t even remember the last time I enjoyed a Premier League game.
