Its now easier to say goodbye to the old guard?

He is clearly not the same player, due to age and injuries, if he was to stay I worry that fans could start getting on his back. Im not saying it will happen or that is has happened, just that it could, and I would hate to see that happen to zabba.

In terms of his legacy I will forever remember him for the warrior that he is, however some people have short memories and only think of the here and now, just look at Toure.

I would be astonished if Zabaleta is anywhere near our first team next season.

Another one who's best days are behind him imho.

I used to work for a company making pressure gauges and it was frustrating when people spelt it as GUAGE.

Please can you change your heading to GUARD.

ha ha Missed that. Just goes to show, we read what we want to.
Maybe we should abolish spelling and rite evrything foneticly.

You support a football club that didn't win a single thing in a generation, 35 long years, and you've got a man there called Yaya Toure who scored 2 Wembley goals, one being against Utd and one the winner in an FA Cup final, to fire us to that first trophy in a generation.

That same player, during a tense game that was goalless, scored an absolute beauty from outside the box, with 20 mins left in the second to last game of a league winning season, before adding to it with just minutes left, to send us on our way to win our first league title for 44 years.

That same player then got an assist for the opening goal in a game that won us our first league title in 44 years.

That same player then scored what's probably the best strike at New Wembley since it's opening to equal the game, before we went on to win our first league cup since 1976.

He did that last one in a season where he pretty much spear headed our 2nd league winning campaign in 46 years by scoring over 20 goals from a deep central midfield position, in what's probably the greatest display of central midfield play in a season, in Premier League history...

... And you think his legacy is tarnished because his legs have now gone this past year?

That and you singling Zaba out, oh deary me. Wtf have some of our fans become.

It's always sad to see players leave - even ones that didn't work out (as I always want players to have enjoyed their time at City, and naively, I like the idea of them falling in love with the club).
These last few years have been some of the most memorable ever, and certainly the most successful. It's hard not to have an attachment to many of the players during this era.
Some 'incidents' have taken the shine of some players - Tevez and Yaya for instance, but it should never be forgotten that both players came to us at a time when were really were nothing more than 'a project'. They were handsomely paid for it, but still, they came, and they delivered.

Everything changes in the end, and we're going to have to say goodbye to them all in the end.

If we can bring in far more players of the calibre, personality and commitment of Vinnie, Zab, Bellamy, Sergio, Joe, Barry and others, then we'll not go far wrong.
And even if we can also replicate the likes of Tevez, Yaya, Dzeko, Nasri, De Jong et al, we'll do very well indeed.

I've always believed it's impossible to replace Yaya after what he has contributed during his time at the club and this season has proved we need one almighty player to do that.
Don't want to say goodbye just yet, he may still have something special for us before the season ends.

Yeah but he's shit now, so we need a new toy.

;o)

Zabaleta is back to his best.

You'll see when Navas comes back.

It will be tough to see Zaba go. Even though he isn't as good, he still gives it his all.

I'll look forward to Yaya leaving, he doesn't care about the club. He's shown that the past few summers where he and his agent chat complete bollocks.

I agree its the right time to move Yaya on but theres no way his poor performances will tarnish his status in my mind. He's been involved in every big moment this club has gone through since the owners came in, so for me its about separating the times when they are past it, from the times when they are at their peak.

I mean Yaya's stand out moments are pretty great:
- Winning goal against United in the 2011 FA Cup Semi Final at Wembley. In my eyes his best moment, witnessing that at Wembley was quite something, thats when I knew we had arrived.
- Winning goal in the 2011 FA Cup Final at Wembley.
- 2 Vital/Winning goals in the penultimate game of the 2011/12 season against Newcastle setting us on our way to our first league title in 44 years.
- Amazing long range strike from out of nowhere to pull us level in the 2013/14 League Cup Final, which turned the game and led us to the cup.
- 20 league goals in 2013/14 season which led us to the title.

Football fans have short term memories, when things are going bad they tend to forget the good parts. Yaya Toure at his best is a very dynamic player, sadly he's now 32 years old and losing that part of that game. He's playing in a system and in big games that he's no longer suitable for.

For people to say it won't be a big thing when he leaves, well I just can't believe that. It may be the right thing to do but it'll still be a big deal to me.

Furthermore, I guarantee he will be rejuvenated at his next club which, makes it all the more frustrating. He's lost his edge because he always wants to be the top man at a club - nothing wrong with that, but we are such a different club than the one in 2011. A great player for us who brought us to a higher level, but like all things it is now time to move on.
