Why do people assume that if we signed Bale, Roberto would play him on the left knowing full well his penchant for switching his wingers to their opposite flank?
He'd really need to be far more versatile and less direct if he came to us

Because the primary reason we need wingers is for crosses, not cutting inside.
Very one dimensional don't you think?

Dani Alves, Valencia, Jesus Navas, Walcott, Farfan, Lennon - all stick to one wing are very successful in the assists category.

Sometimes being one dimensional is a positive, you know?

Comment has been made about going for Bale because of his ability to cross the ball and giving the extra dimension when the other mob parks the bus.

I still believe there is an issue about who the ball is crossed too. Last year unfortunately Edin was too inconsistent and this is why he lost his place. Some days his touch was magical, other days his first touch was dreadful.

I don't think that he will maintain a regular place in the team for this reason and therefore the imperative is to find a tall alternative (Ibra, RVP, LLorente etc) who CAN hold down a spot in the team.

There is no doubt that almost every team will park the bus next year. The question remains how to deal with that.

I like the idea of using Bale through the middle aswrl as out wide.

-----------Aguero-------------
------Silva-------Tev/Nas---
-------------Bale---------------
------Baz/DJ--Yaya------------
Clichy---Les--Vinny---Richards
-------------Hart----------------

That team has width from wingbacks, has De Jong holding and falling into defence whe wingback advances and leaves space. Yaya and Bale going forward would be absolutely lethal. It would speed up movement of play from back to front and ease the pressure on Yaya having to be the ball carrier. Bale could switch to the flank if need be during play.

He's a step up from Hazard imho, I just don't think he's getable unless we swap Ade, Johnson and cash. He'd change the dynamics of the team for the better more than most signings could. Think of Bale booming forward on the break and with Yaya, Silva, Nasri, Tevez and Aguero to feed. I'm moist.

I really don't think we'll move for Bale.

Mancini likes players who are adaptable and can play in a variety of positions and are capable of a free roles and interchanging positions on the pitch (like our dynamic system of Silva, Nasri, Tevez and Aguero).

Bale is not one of those players, and neither is AJ which is why he is out in the cold. If we go for a winger, they would have to have an element of versatility to catch Bobby's eye methinks.

Left wing, right wing (where he plays for Wales), left-back, and in the middle behind the striker seems pretty versatile to me.

He is not a good full back which is why he was pushed forward in the first place, and was not effective for Spurs when he was played in the middle or on the right. As a left winger however he is one of the best in the business and that's where Spurs got the best out of him. He faded over a period last season when Redknapp experimented with his positioning.

But I don't think RM will throw a lot of money at a player who can only occupy one midfield position effectively when our system depends on a rapid switching of positions from the four attackers.

I think he was a great full back, Spurs only moved him forward because his attacking was wasted there. I agree that he struggled when moved to the middle this season, but I think, with our players around him, Bale is easily good enough to adapt to our system. At Spurs we've seen glimpses of his ability, he'd be unstoppable in our side.

im really not too sure. he has tricky feet so i thought he was a winger, but he also great vision and good passing abilities. well im acting like i know too much, just watched a youtube clip lol. but to me he looks very talented

Maybe RM would bring the best out of him, he is a far better manager than Redknapp.

Oh sod it, put the bid in now £30m + Bridge, Ade and Santa Cruz.

Job done ;)
