Haaland replaces aguero
Alvarez replaces Torres
So selling Jesus leaves a gap in the squad

And selling Bernardo and Sterling leaves a hue gap as you say
Except that Torres and Aguero were never really playing at the same time. After Torres arrived, Aguero played the equivalent of 8 full games. And Torres was the least used of our attackers by far.

Foden has also gone from an irregular to a main starter since Aguero's last full season.

Alvarez is a fantastic talent and ready to play a part for us - in the middle.

He came through at River Plate as a winger and was regarded as a good young player with decent potential. But it's only when he went through the middle that he exploded. He's a fantastic finisher, good with both feet, he presses well, he's stocky and strong and he's not slow. But he's probably not as fast as Jesus and certainly not as fast as Sterling. Alvarez is Gabby's replacement, pretty clearly - a back up striker who can also cover the wings and press. He isn't at the same level technically but he could end up being a world class centre forward, and a very good inside forward.

He isn't as good as Gabby on the wing, and Gabby isn't as good as Raz on the wing. The idea that Alvarez is a suitable replacement for Sterling is nonsense.

If he's going, fine. Get the best fee and get it done. But if we've got to within a year of his contract running out and we haven't identified a suitable replacement, it's a failure IMO.
Alvarez is not a direct replacement for sterling. but if we buy no one then he will replace jesus/sterling playtime on the right wing and will rotate with mahrez. palmer will play in the cups and some easy league matches.

I agree on your points...
Mine is that we are left we worse options outwide in Mahrez and Grealish

I could take losing Sterling and Jesus but to lose B.Silva would be a huge mistake....it was said last year and thankfully no one came in for him or he changed his mind or whatever happened....
Agree with Bernie. I expect Jack to come out of his shell this season. Mahrez can be hit and miss so another winger might be needed. We could be sitting top by Christmas and the new players tearing it up. Hopefully the recruitment is spot on otherwise we might struggle for 1/2 seasons. City struggling usually still means a cup or league win anyway. We need the change in personal.

Put it this way. If Pep wanted sterling and Jesus to stay they would. That’s why I have hope Bernie can be convinced that his future is with us. Pep does not want him to leave so unless he is hell bent on going we got a good chance to keep him.

Disagree about a Jesus replacement mate.

Foden
Grealish
Haaland
Alverez
Mahrez
Sterling/replacement
Palmer

Is plenty for 3 positions. 8 players for just 3 positions is overkill imo.
But the point is we might not be replacing Sterling...so thats one down for starters

ALvarez - a complete unknown txixi et al know what they are doing buteven experienced players come to the prem ad struggle and here we have a young kid playing for the first time out of Brazil...he will need time.

Palmer - a great prosepct but can he step up...he certainly looks like he could but for me its similar to Alvarez and an unknown

Grealish - his performances will need to improve hugely - he was bang average imho last year. he is nowhere near what we are potentially losing. he isnt fit to lace Bernardo's boots in ANY aspect of the game and as far as work rate he is nowhere near Jesus.

Worry with losing sterling and jesus is that we‘ll have no wingers on the right who can get in behind or to the line and cut it back. We‘ll only have left footers who have to turn back and play a delayed cross. Sometimes this is ok but sometimes (villa for one example) we need to change the angle of attack.

dont know enough about alvarez who i dont think is a winger

If Alvarez is rotating with Mahrez, who exactly is rotating with Haaland? One of the three is going to end up playing a silly amount of games. One has never played European football, one has a patchy injury record of late and the other is 31.
