We have seen Vinny, Zabba, Dave, Sergio, Toure and Fern all degrade and eventually leave us.

We keep on winning. There are new players to be made heroes of.

None of those players were in their physical primes and sold to league rivals.

I'm not all doom and gloom about losing any of them but there's quite a bit of context you've missed out there.

Sure, but there is certainly a risk to replace Ake with a 18 year old cb that have 1 senior apperance. I mean he could be the next Vinny, but are we comfortable with that uncertainty?

I don't think we will go with the youth option you suggest.

I'm sure City has a list of experienced, fourth-choice back ups, who are able to just do a job for a small amount of game time.

The squad was too small last season. I don't understand how anyone would think making it smaller again would be a smart idea, short of placing too much faith in academy players and Pep's trust in them.
