Who's to say Kounde will be brought In as 4th choice, with Stones Injury record of late he could well become the 4th choice If Kounde steps up to the mark, could also be any of Laporte or Dias that makes the drop down the pecking order If performances drop below par.

Maybe adjusts the dynamic of competing for places or sharing the workload more evenly.

Any of Rodri, Philips or Mbete can fill the 4th CB position when needed.

Couldn’t disagree more.

Phillips is too short.
Rodri is needed in midfield.
Mbete not good enough yet.

Right or wrong, I think we’ll go with 3 CBs plus Mbete. Could only see Kounde happening if we know we’re losing another CB, maybe next summer. In that case, Kounde, de Ligt etc., would become an option.

Surely that's the point. Pep normally selects players on form. All it would take is for Dias, Laporte or Stones - or any combination of those three - to be out injured or suspended and the so-called fourth choice may well come in and perform well enough to retain his place. Not so long ago, Stones's days looked numbered. However, when an opportunity arose, he seized it with both hands and has since gone from strength to strength while, arguably, Laporte's stock has fallen.
