It's Quiet 17 - Glory Thread

Players still have that difficulty of trying to adjust and with the World Cup being in the middle of the season and with the players ahead of them in our team they would probably not take the risk of uprooting this time around. There is a great chance all our 3 CBs will stay injury free and the new signing would only get the Cup games.

I am willing to bet you that all 3 of our CBs will not stay injury free all season. Has that ever even happened, that all CBs were available 100% of the time?

Dias, Stones and Laporte were all available for the majority of 20/21 I think. That's why Laporte got frustrated at not playing when he was available, because Dias and Stones were in the team ahead of him every week

City are still moving for a leftback. And Gvardiol isn’t what Pep wants in a lb. kinda waste to spend 60-80m on him. It’s evident they want a lb for a change in system where the fullback stretches the pitch.
Out of the players who play left back at the club one is probably going to prison and will not play for us again regardless. One is midfielder who Pep has turned into a left back and tends not to be wide left back and will probably be sold the other is a right back who is a better left back who cuts inside and another is a CB who doesn’t play out wide

I agree that if we do want Cucurella we are going to operate with full backs stretching the pitch and that’s what I want to see but I bet Pep will play different systems and players depending on the opposition

Pep practically invented the inverted full back and created a new way of playing it with Cancelo at times operating almost as a left back / striker / false 9 / etc

We will need a new CB when Ake goes

So I don’t see the harm in having a CB who can play there so we can operate different systems against different o positions and also effectively have an extra body. Peps history suggest he agrees with me

I don’t know anything about Gvardiol but if he is as good as people say then I am sure he is capable of getting forward and operating some what wide to a degree just like Zinchenko did against Vila etc even though he is not a traditional left back

Majority is not all is it. There were absences that year too. Minor ones, but they weren't fit and available every single game. That's before you even consider suspensions, covid etc. That is why clubs build squads with multiple players, it is very much an expectation that players need rotated and aren't always available.

Thanks for explaining the concept of squads to me, I had no idea

When the eff did Zinchenko become a winger...greater chance of him moving to Everton than of him playing as a winger at City...
Players can be whatever Pep says they can be. He can be very effective as a more attacking player especially if he has a full back over lapping him, or he’s under lapping a full back.
