It's Quiet 17 - Glory Thread

More sources chiming confirming the interest. They paid £15m didn’t they? So £30m seems to be the figure people keep mentioning. Not too bad considering he’d presumably come right in as first choice.

Cucurella isn't better than Cancelo or Ake (although he is more cover for centre back) but is the better option than Zin (who has done his best as cover). He can cover a couple more postions so in theory a smart signing.

He doesn’t need to be better than Cancelo.

They have different skill sets.

We need to have a defensively minded left back who is capable of going forwards.

When Walker is out, we move our offensive left back to be our offensive right back.

We then replace our left back with a converted midfielder.

Occasionally, we need 2 defensive full backs. We only have one in the squad.

The problem at the minute Cancelo isn't that convincing playing on the right. Although this is the more convincing signing of the Premier League based players

It’s not he’s not convincing, it’s that we struggle to adapt without Walker’s pace and defensive mindset. If we had a quick, defensively minded understudy, he would rotate well with Walker and Cancelo.

Walker missing changes the dynamic of our defence completely at the moment.

Not completely disagreeing with you on this but feel keeping Cancelo in his more natural positon is more benefical but it still full back cover which is needed as well.

I just don’t see Cancelo as a good enough defender in certain games.

A bit like TAA against us.
Much better on the left (as per his Premier League player of the year nomination and what earnt his contract extension) and I think Cancelo is the better attacker than TAA but TAA is quicker

Semantics. They’re both attacking weapons, but defensive weaknesses that their respective coaches need to cover to allow them to flourish.

Sometimes, neither should be in the team if that team needs defensive solidity more than attacking threat from their position.

But both teams are more attacking orientated than defensive in which tends to favour the attack minded fullbacks (although speed is essential attribute)

@Gabriel is this midget okay? (Guess who just scored a goal…)
11 goals in 107 games, 3 in the last 3, so he’s hitting form at the right time.

If the club are now intent on paying double what they could have paid last season for a problem position, then they probably won’t have as much to use in central midfield. You’d better keep knocking on Txiki’s door.

The Palmeiras president gave an interview just before the game saying they will keep him from leaving in this European summer window. She’s not always truthful, so we’ll see

Southampton reportedly gave us 13.5 million for Angus Gunn. Wonder how generous they’d be for a keeper with ten caps?
He had a good little run, let 9 goals in against Leicester and never seen in a saints short again! They’ve not had much luck with keepers. McCarthy played the other night but the first game in months and he got injured during a game and didn’t say and then made a mistake leading to a goal. They’ve had Fraser Foster in and out the starting line up for years as well. Time they had a bit of luck with their number 1
