It's Quiet 17 - Glory Thread

Right now we can say the following will be here next season:

Ederson
Walker
Dias
Stones
Cancelo
Rodri
De Bruyne
Grealish
Fode
Palmer
McAtee

The following are probably going to be here but if the right offer is made they may go:
Laporte
Ake
Zinchenko
Bernardo
Steffen

Then there’s the players entering the final year of their contract:
Sterling
Jesus
Carson
Mahrez
Gundogan

Then there are the definite departures:
Fernandinho
Mendy

Even if everyone from the first 3 groups stay we would have a squad of around 21. That would have 3 club trained players, 4 association trained players and 14 neither. That would leave scope for 3 arrivals (say Haaland, Alvarez and a midfielder) plus we could integrate Yan Couto as he wouldn’t take up a space.

Doesn’t give us a lot of room to manoeuvre. If, for example, Bazunu replaced Steffen it would give us an additional spot.

I agree. Teams haven't worked us out (any more than they did 3 years ago), we are just not taking enough scoring opportunities.
Even Liverpool the other day. They played the best they could play for 45 minutes, but we should have at least been level by the end of the 90. Teams already know what we do, stopping it is just not possible without seriously jeopardising their goal.
That's the risk/reward all teams face.
Haaland can score goals other players in the team cannot, and let's be honest, many fans, including myself, put a lot of pressure on the team because we need goals from everywhere to stay top. Bit of unfair expectations there.

We just lack attacking players who are natural goal scorers. If we had 3 players up top that could get over double figures in goals we would be winning the league by a bigger margin.

The supremely irritating and talentless scouse warbler may have been responsible for recording the song first in March 1966 but the far superior version was Dionne Warwick's recorded just six months later. A young Cher actually recorded the version used in the film of the same name.
You're welcome.

As a side point I wouldn't think Bazunu counts as club trained, on account of being away on loan for the key years. Anyone think/know otherwise?

Been watching these threads and I think I understand...

Laura Branigan guest starred in an episode of Knight Rider

Apart from KITT, the main star of Knight Rider was David Hasselhoff, known by all who love him as ‘The Hoff’

TSG Hoffenheim play in the Bundesliga, as do Borussia Dortmund

Dortmund apparently have a promising young striker called Erling Braut Haaland who started his career at Bryne in Norway

You only have to swap the R and the Y to get Byrne, as in David Byrne, a founding member of beat combo Talking Heads. Talking Heads had a popular music hit with a song called Psycho Killer

In terms of historic impact of actions, probably the biggest ‘Psycho’ in football was not Beanie Pearce, but Zvonimir Boban whose on field behaviour (sort of) kicked off the Balkans War

Boban also loves tennis and plays regularly with his big buddy and fellow Croat, Goran Ivanisevic, hold that thought for a moment…

Now going back to Laura Branigan, the song Gloria peaked at number 6 in the UK

If you remove the final six letters from the name Ivanisevic you are left with ‘Ivan’

We have never really replaced Mad Mario’s ‘ice in his veins’ penalty taking approach…

until now with our imminent signing of Ivan Toney

Have I got the hang of this??
Brilliant work Spires. You win today's internet.

Home grown, but not club trained. for PL h'ell be fine. CL we have the space.

Thought so. Not much of an improvement on Steffen then, in terms of squad status. As CL is what the club tend to build to.

I don't know how much longer Carson can really stick around as back-up either.

He's a couple of years away even to sit on the bench, he wont be here.

Was Cher’s song featured in the film? I thought it was on the soundtrack album but didn’t appear in the film, whilst I’m sure I heard Cilla warbling at the end of the film. Mind you, it’s probably 35/40 years ago that I watched so anything is possible…….
