It's Quiet 17 - Glory Thread

I don't mind they phrase but it's applied horrendously. Every decent teenager or club's greatest player is deemed "generational".

Bellingham is not generational. Enzo Fernandez is not generational.
Mbappé and Haaland might be, but not quite yet.

I'd say there have probably been less than 10 generational players in the history of the sport.
Di Stefano, Puskás, Pelé, Cruyff, Maradona, Ronaldo, Messi - possibly Beckenbauer, possibly Yashin.
Surely by definition there’s at least one and probably more in each generation?

This logic is baffling.

James Ward-Prowse is the best free-kick taker in the world and Maddison's record is just 2% below.
Maddison is miles better outside of set pieces. But his free-kick taking is elite, far better than KDB, Mahrez or Gündogan.

I never said free-kick taking makes you world class. But his free-kick taking is world class.

If football was like American Football and we could bring someone on to take a free-kick... then he'd be amazing.

The notion that a spot on the team is wasted by Phillips shows the issue on forums. Here is an England international, and proven Premier League player, who has played a total of 165 minutes for the team, because of injury and operations. Anyone judging him as a failure does so absolutely prematurely and disrespectfully, IMO. Disrespectfully to him, the club, and the management team.
I’m getting increasingly bored of people writing him off. Like you said, he’s hardly played. You could point to his injuries and availability so far, but people saying he’s not good enough is a bit weird. Solid player for both Leeds and England, that’s all we need for a Rodri back up.
