It's Quiet 17 - Glory Thread

Bale literally doesn’t match any criteria for mercenary, which itself is a fucking stupid word thrown around in football.

For someone whining about this thread being toxic, the only person I can see making it unpleasant is you.
A player who was paid millions of pounds a month, who apart from the first two seasons thought more of playing golf than he did keeping kit and playing for his employers.

His appearances for Wales, performances said everything about him, if he could do it for Wales, why not Madrid?

Cancelo is a good player with no place in this team
We're not going to sell him to buy a replacement right back though.
Walker is getting older, and even though he's first choice, we need a backup if he gets injured or suspended. Look what happened at the end of this season!

we already saw what this current bale can bring to the premier league a year ago for spurs, the answer was nothing, how is this even a question

Not if the players want to be playing, Zinch needs regular game time and sadly he wont with us.
He is in the middle of a massive crisis and feels the love here by the club and the fans , now is not the time to leave , he is also a new dad , we will not show him the door and i doubt very much he views playing time over the benefits of being here right now , next summer maybe

Yea exactly and look what happened.

Bale is a total mercenary.

He's not really a mercenary, he was just given a massive contract while one of the best players in the world at arguably the biggest club in the world, then fell out of favour due to injuries and managerial decisions. Then there was a concerted effort by the Madrid press to paint him negatively and try and force him out as they didn't want to keep paying him the contract they agreed to

I totally understand his issues this year but even with a free mind he won't be getting the game time he deserves and probably needs.

I understand that but also understand why the press, club and fans turned against him, he did himself no favours.

Cancelo is a good player with no place in this team.

He is being shoehorned into LB because he can’t get a game at RB because he’s no competition at all to Walker, and all he does by coming inside while playing LB is force our world class attacking midfielders out wide to do the job of the traditional left back - and he never passes to them because it’s on his weak foot.

It may be my unpopular opinion but I am utterly convinced that this time next year Cucurella will be the undisputed number 1 left back, Grealish and Foden will have had much better seasons because they won’t have been forced to hug the touchline all game and starved of the ball, and Cancelo will be demanding a transfer because he never plays.

I'm increasingly inclined to agree with this view and also don't see him being here much past next summer

My trajectory on Cancelo has been almost the complete opposite of everyone else's on this forum. I defended him in his first season as it was apparent he had bags of talent and could be a real asset to us, but as his wider reputation has improved his downsides rankle me more than any other player for some reason. I think I can forgive poor execution of a good idea more than consistent poor decision making, no matter how technically excellent the player is

Or if we leave Keepers fantasy land and live in the real world…

He is excellent in 13/14, 14/15, 15/16, has an injury effected 16/17, is MOTM in the champions league final in 2017/18.

Then he falls out with Zidane and agrees to a move to China in summer 2019 WHICH FLORENTINO PEREZ PULLS THE PLUG ON.

He barely plays in 19/20 despite being fit, plays well at Spurs in 20/21.

Your version of events is so wrong its embarrassing, Perez himself would find it cringeworthy.

Read less Marca.

Bale is a total mercenary.

You mean the same bale that’s just given his champions league bonus to a childrens hospital ward in Cardiff.

The same Bale that is potentially taking a massive pay cut to sign for Cardiff city as he wants to get them into the prem.

Bale isn’t a mercenary. Spanish media made him out to be like one. He’s payed well but used that money for local communities in Cardiff and other places close to him.

You’ll see him holding off Walker at RB mark my words. He’s the best RB in the league. Fuck, probably the best in the world.

Because he wasn’t picked?

No one else was ever going to pay the wages Madrid offered, so he sat tight and pocketed the money.

Now he doesn’t need the money and can choose pretty much any club he wants in England, barring a couple.

He’s been here 3 years and has never once been picked ahead of Walker at RB for more than 1 game at a time to rest Walker, why would that change now?
