It's Quiet 17 - Glory Thread

If we are replacing Stones, Laporte or Dias I will agree lets bring a top quality defender in now regardless of the World Cup. The issue is keeping the 4th CB happy is near enough impossible even for Pep's managerial abilities.
We sign top class players, that's why we are successful, bringing in a 4th CB, who isn't good enough when required to play would be a stupid thing to do. Bring someone in who's good enough, and if he wants to leave in a few years like Ake its no big deal. Never compromise on quality.

We won 100 points basically with Mangala as 4th choice

Mangala is so the wrong fucking example for this it is almost satirical. A top rated player that cost 42m at a time when that type of fee was a pisstake, who found himself down the pecking order after we brought in more capable players.

Could have said Eric Garcia if you really wanted to make the point. But then that year was a bit of a defensive shitshow wasn't it.

And how many points would we have got if he had to play lots because of injury. I also don't remember a World Cup in the middle of the season when Mangala was here. I'm actually astonished that some think just 3 top CB's is enough for the coming season.

Under normal circumstanceswe could easily sign an extra quality defender during the World Cup and it would give the player less pressure to acclimatise.

Strange, we won the title with three top CB's and three subs the past two years. Or has the hyperbole reached the levels of "Ake is a top CB"?

Even crazier if they followed last season when barely 4 cbs were enough... :s

In fairness to Ray, he is not alone in making that claim. They all astonish me equally.

Not replacing Sterling, while I disagree, I can understand the logic to an extent.

Consciously wanting to go with 3 CBs, with the multitude injuries 2 of them have had, space in the squad, money to spend and over 50 days in the window left, sorry, that I just can't get.

Good luck in finding one who would be happy with the current circumstances and would accept that role in the team and one who has similar qualities to our current ones. It would be more easier if there is a place in the team for the new shiny CB signing.

Ake is a very capable CB, who was playing well before the injury. We need to replace with at least the same quality if he leaves, I imagine the 3 top CB's is enough lot will feel a little different if we pick up a couple of injuries, and are shoehorning midfielder's into CB for big games.
