It's Quiet 17 - Glory Thread

Nah - I’m not buying this!

A 30 year old Neymar just doesn’t make any sense given how careful the Club has been over the last decade in scouting the right characters for the squad.

This would be such a huge departure for us, and such an apparently random lurch towards the Galactico acquisition approach - which has just never been our thing - that I simply can’t believe it’s true.
Well we did want Messi, and if you believe some reports Ronaldo as well. I don't know what to make of it

The ITKs talking about melting the net and blowing doors off would make more sense if they could explain what happens to Grealish and Foden if we sign that dream big name player. The plan for next season can't possibly be to have a 100m 3rd-choice squad player on the left. Pep will give Grealish plenty of chances to establish himself in the first XI. The alternative doesn't make sense.

As I say, haven't kept track so I'll take your word for it.

The ones I've noticed, were always left to interpretation. Haaland was claimed nailed on, but with a shifting timeline over like 3 transfer windows. London calling 3 players? No names, quite open ended. And yesterday's big name claim.

Might just the be the ones I've noticed. Not attempting to rubbish anything btw, just saying it is not unusual that it is vague and BM fills in the gaps. Doesn't quite speak in clues really, but doesnt always just give explicit mames either.

Either way, the guy is excited that's for sure.

That's all fair enough but I don't know what people expect, really. Information can be solid one day and then things can change the next.

I know what you mean but, as I said, they mention specific names more often than not, even if they get it horrendously wrong. Been almost spot on for the last year or so though.

Whilst that may be the general policy, there are obviously exceptions. We tried to get Messi last summer, after all, and Neymar is a fair bit younger. Not saying that I think it will necessarily happen, but Guardiola clearly rates him highly and Soriano has long wanted a global star to boost our profile overseas. I guess you could argue Haaland fits that profile, but Neymar would be on another level in terms of the attention it would generate, particularly in South America.
Buying profile players rather than what is actually needed is what has led to uniteds downfall.
Just sayin .

Honestly I’m not sure how I feel about the potential of signing neymar. Is that a sign of how far city have come? Or how far neymar has fallen?
A decade ago this was Robinho and we’re all running round with tea towels on our heads and fake fifty notes!

Anyone who doesn’t think we’d be interested and make the deal happen if possible needs their head testing.

We pushed the boat out to attempt to sign a 34 year old Messi not so long ago….

I'll take a head testing then.

There is a world of difference between Messi of 2 years ago, and Neymar of now. And our team then and now too. In fact, a few worlds of difference.

And at the point he was actually available, the club didn't even nudge the boat let alone push it, signing Grealish instead.

I don't think we'd be interested. A little bit in the player but mostly on the overall move.

I know it seems strange but things they change, we’re doing all we can ! God bless the club ! I hope your ready for fun !

Song: Not Nineteen Forever (Bellinghams Age)
Album: St. Jude

I mean isn’t this as big of a clue to Bellingham as anything that’s been hinted about Neymar??

Bellingham would warrant the enthusiasm that’s been given off. The transfer will be over 100mil+. All the ITKs have linked us with him. Actually fits into City’s future plans.

I've got it! Is it the annual ISCO transfer? The one that's been going on for 10 years

At least I'm not alone in the waiting room for the head test.

Can we have a summary of what exactly 93:20 said ?

I saw a post saying something to the effect that he'd been reliably informed that we were going to blow the bloody doors off (or summut), but has there been any specific reference to a particular player, position, club or nationality?

He said something like

is there a bem Brazil in Manchester?

The way I see Neymar working is if he sees it as a big chance for him too and is prepared to buy into the way we do things. The guy has flattered to deceive for a long time but as others have said, his and Pep’s mutual admiration might be enough for him to up his game. Perhaps he feels like he has something to prove and is prepared to put the work in?

Maybe he’s pushing to come here? Maybe he’s been told he can come but won’t play every game and he won’t play at all if he doesn’t perform?

Pep doesn’t suffer fools, and neither do City, so if this is true we have to assume that they are heading off the problems right off the top.

And if we haven’t done any of the above, and he’s going to rock up smoking and drinking and putting in 25% effort then this could be pure chaos (which City don’t seem to like).

This makes sense imo.
  1. Neymar gets lined up for future CFG opportunities.
  2. He plus Haaland bring more glitz for the "franchise".
  3. Pep has a challenge that he'll savour.
  4. 2023 Neymar >= 2022 Sterling
  5. Financial make send (presumably)
My only fear is the chemistry in the squad.
