It's Quiet 17 - Glory Thread

No, you make it clear he can go...just a few weeks later.

Its hardly "treating a player like an object" its preseason ffs.
Makes no difference, Brighton want as much as they can possibly get whether we have alternatives or not. If we say don’t pay what they want or are willing to compromise at we won’t get him. If it’s above what we are willing then we need an alternative.

Did you not read my post carefully, Arsenal will not wait because they have their own pre season plan to think of and wants their own player transfer plans is sorted as soon as possible. The moment Zinchenko already signed the damn contract, City have no under obligation to hold the player any longer and need to be announced soonish.

City didn’t have to accept their bid.

And you get pissed off Zinchenko that wants to leave, sure treat the player who already given everything for this club even if he is not a reguler member for the most part of his career this poorly.

Good thing our management have some decency and empathy of human being than some poster of this forum.

Where were you when they sold us Sanhez?

Not saying it is something we should have done, but clubs regularly accept bids but hold off completing the transfer till they have replacements in. Like all the time.

The fact Zinchenko deserves better is another matter, but it is naive to argue it can't and doesn't happen.

Zinchenko would have stayed if he got the same amount of game time as last season.

Yeah because waiting a couple of weeks would really make them want him less. Our own persuit of a LB shows there are not many top targets available...arsenal would have waited.

But whatever, we're obviously confident or else we WOULD have kept zinny on ice.

He has played the grand total of one Carabao Cup game v Wycombe and missed much of the last 18 months with injury. He isn’t in a position to be demanding more minutes in our first team

I get your point but it's more about our plans than about his demands. We don't plan the squad and the future of the academy talents with regard to the minutes they played in previous seasons. Otherwise, it would be hopeless for them.

Take Palmer. He started only one PL game last season and played a small fraction of Sterling's minutes. But we expect big things from Palmer and won't sign a player, say a winger, who could block his future integration in the team. The same holds about McAtee.

If we expect JWE to improve by leaps and bounds, we may be wary of signing a player who could block his development. Such considerations play a role in our plans. Whether we plan the future squad with JWE is anyone's guess, though. It's a bit academic right now. He should get over his injuries. We need an experienced LB, that much is clear.

What happens if we pay 45-50m for Cucu and JWE turns out to be a highly talented LB who wants to play much more minutes?

If JWE competes with a cheaper new LB, he can displace him and play gradually more and more minutes. But if a 50m LB stands in his way, his playing time will stay limited even if he improves a lot.

From JWE's perspective, it's not the same whether we buy a back-up LB to rotate Cancelo or a first choice LB. An expensive first choice LB would limit JWE's minutes over the next 2-3 years much more than a squad player like, say, Sosa.

This is probably a minor point, but it might have some weight for Txiki and Pep.
Too many ‘ifs’ in your post. The club isn’t run to work on hypotheticals

Naive.

Every club plans the future, and everything about the future is hypothetical, e.g. "If we sign Haaland we'll score more goals" or "If we sign Cucu we'll have a better LB than Zinch", and so on.

Cucurella to CITY

Cucurella deal no further on. The clubs seem no closer on valuations. Borna Sosa is the favourite alternative if a deal cannot be struck.

City rejected an offer of £16 million for Delap from Southampton.

City are deciding whether to loan McAtee or keep him. Half the PL want him on loan so the decision is likely to a joint one between City and the player.

Today has all been about Esbrand. His first team performances have been so good that some posters, who thought we needed two left backs, now think we need only one. Some that thought we needed only one now think we don’t need any. Another stream of thought is that we should still buy a left back but as a back up to Esbrand. Everyone wants a solution before we play West Ham given that any new signing will have already missed most if not all all our pre season training.

We have a brilliant Academy.

The window closes 11PM on 1st September.

I’ll post one of these most evenings around this time on this thread

You are welcome.

Please note this isn’t a summary of what is in the news, what I reckon or what will definitely happen. It’s only a summary of what is currently being discussed on the transfer forum

Not at all. I could easily counter your argument by asking what if JWE has more injury setbacks, we miss out on Cucurella cos all of our eggs are in JWE's basket and Cucurella signs for one of our rivals and turns out to be a world class left back?

A lot can change very quickly in football and we need a left back now - can't afford to wait for a largely unproven 18 year old, who has been hampered by injuries for the last 2 seasons, to perhaps fulfil his potential. If he is good enough, and better than Cucurella, then he will replace him

Btw it’s ridiculous to include Haaland in this conversation as we knew we were signing a proven goalscorer

The way I see it is we will go into the season with
Cancelo/Walker/New LB/JWE with Cancelo also playing left back when we want to start him and Walker together.

We are signing Cucurella imo, just need to be patient. No chance they miss out on this player after selling Zinchenko. He’s absolute class from what I’ve seen & also clearly fits the nice guy tag Pep likes. Feisty fucker too on the pitch, will be a great addition.
