It's Quiet 17 - Glory Thread

I wonder if it crosses Bernardo’s mind he might get less pay than expected
Or that for a short while he’ll be their shiny new toy. Then after a couple of seasons they’ll be demanding he takes a pay cut and trying to get him out the door. Why would anyone want to play for these wankers!

You’re as bad as Pep. Think yourself lucky or you will be down to one full back…in my day our total squad amounted to 4 blokes a squirrel and a dog, but if you tell that to the young people of today…they won’t believe you.
The squirrel couldn’t even defend and the sitters the dog missed were shocking.

Ake would contribute zero going forward as a left back , the same can be said about Stones playing full back , we really are playing with fire having only two full backs .

When Pep said about doing something special at left back it will probably be putting a midfielder there (Phillips?) or going 3 at the back?

Both started in the game at Spurs. Irrespective of what happened afterwards, we went into that season with them as part of the first-team squad so they ought to be included when comparing depth.
You have to count them. City didn't plan on Mendy being arrested and Torres being sold mid year. So they went into the year with those two on board and decided on not replacing either during the season.

Chilwell definitely. I mentioned this a few days back. Think he would be a good buy. I know he’s coming back from injury but I reckon it may be a risk worth taking.

Luke shaw. Leave it out.
Not at the money they’d want for him, they aren’t going to do us any favours.

He's more proven than Cucurella and also has the homegrown benefit.

In a World Cup year, Chilwell needs to be playing and getting his fitness up.

I'd give them their money back?
I'd give them their money back also. Boehly may look at it as, Chilwell didn't cost him £1. That was Roman's money.

He's got his new boy Cucu to play LB. Maybe he will want to offset the cost some.

I’d be happy ”converting” Aké into a leftback now with mostly shit leftbacks left on the market after Cucurella, because defensively he is very solid and he’s quick. My one concern is his (in)ability to attack. His attacking stats aren’t exactly glamorous.

If you can genuinely see Ake overlapping Grealish and whipping it in for Haaland you’re beyond assistance.

If we can’t get a left back before the window closes, we’re taking an awful risk. There’s no way Walker and Cancelo can play the 23+ matches between now and November. Ake has played a little bit there and we have Wilson Esbrand who has 1 Carabao appearance to his name. If Cancelo gets injured we’re in real trouble defensively. Last season even with Zinchenko, Fernandinho played full back.

One of the main issues of concern for me is our lack of natural width. We sold Sterling, Jesus and Zinchenko all of whom could overlap and get to the byline. Walker and Cancelo can both do it on the right, on the left we have Foden. It had been suggested that Cucurella would give us this width but that’s not happening. We could end up being very narrow which makes us much easier to defend against.

I cannot understand why a club that has regularly been burned in transfers doesn’t appear to have a back up plan for left back.

I also cannot understand why we aren’t in for a midfielder, we know Bernardo is going, if not summer then next, Gundogan will leave next summer. So we’ll need 2 midfielders, we are supposed to have our eye on Bellingham but why aren’t we bringing in someone now to settle this season to minimise disruption next season? It doesn’t make sense to me.
Zinchenko and byline are not 2 words I would put in the same sentence
