But Pep knows any system he comes up with has a shelf date before defenses adjust and the system has been found out and doesn't work anymore inspite of it winning titles.

So we morph into the next system that works with players that are skilled and those that have the personality to gel and not kick up a fuss if sitting out!

My point is we are a world class club, we should be targeting established and flourishing talent. Players like Maddison, Phillips, Gomez and to some extent even Grealish aren't that. They are average to sub average in that case of Gomez.

It's disingenuous to compare him to KDB, he's not that type of player. He's more like a Kroos/Yaya hybrid. Can stay deep and dictate play but also play that box-to-box role very well; as attested by his England performances.

I've read for Dortmund he's good as an attacking midfielder but goes missing when played deeper?

I was comparing him to KDB in that he was German player of the year before we got him.

He's had Rodgers and still managed to shine.

Coming in to his prime years, relatively low price, homegrown, Premier League tested and a brilliant eye for a pass.

No brainer for the club, and reminds me a bit of Bruno Fernandes, minus the rat features.

Only issue for me would be his recent injuries.

I don't mind the phrase in itself but it's applied horrendously. Every decent teenager or club's greatest player is deemed "generational".

Bellingham is not generational. Enzo Fernandez is not generational.
Mbappé and Haaland might be, but not quite yet.

I'd say there have probably been less than 10 generational players in the history of the sport.
Di Stefano, Puskás, Pelé, Cruyff, Maradona, Ronaldo, Messi - possibly Beckenbauer, possibly Yashin.

James Ward-Prowse is the best free-kick taker in the world and Maddison's record is just 2% below.
Maddison is miles better outside of set pieces. But his free-kick taking is elite, far better than KDB, Mahrez or Gündogan.

I never said free-kick taking makes you world class. But his free-kick taking is world class.

Compete for top 6 is dramatic.
