It's Quiet 18 - Wanna ring the bell?

The squad is a little light, you can't replace a winger like Mahrez with Palmer who has 478 minutes of premier league experience. Doing so would be throwing the lad to the wolves. We are short on both wings and a body in midfield. Mcatee can get some minutes but he is underexperienced for premier league level football, the difference between the championship to the premier league is big.
I meant Mahrez instead of Bernardo in my post. Thanks for mentioning that. I expect Bernardo to stay. Mahrez was a rotation player at best last season, despite how talented he is. Bernardo, Foden, Alvarez, De Bruyne, McAtee and Palmer can all play RW if need be. A loss for sure but I'm not too sure we're in a crisis. But a little light is certainly a fair statement.

This may be the first season in a while our bench doesn't finish in the top 4-6 if they were another team lol.

As it stands this squad is far from light. It's the same squad as last year with Gundo swapped for Kovacic, and improved (more experienced) youth players.

If 3 or 4 of Walker, Laporte, Cancelo, and Bernardo leave then it's a different story.
No Mahrez

When you get the squad on paper does look a little light. Nothing overly worrying but an addition on the wings (both sides) is vital. Mcatee and Palmer will play a part this season. I’d even keep Harwood-Bellis to cover Laporte if he actually leaves
Plus... (if the squad rules allow it)
  • Gomez as a Grealish backup
  • Cancelo as a general utility player
  • Bobb as a winger/forward
  • Perrone an another option in midfield
  • An academy full of sinkers or swimmers

why is there so much panic? The squad genuinely seems in a good state for me. Just make sure to get Kyle’s replacement, same for any other exit.

Only thing I’m worried about is if Rodri gets injured, Kalvin can keep possession and pass but breaking up play he’s no where near Rodri. We look so open when he’s at CDM in the cup games he played last season.

Has Phillips ever played with Stones stepping into DM though, maybe that will help him when it’s tried.

That’s a good point hopefully he does look different with Stones next to him, I just think he’s not the player we signed from Leeds which is shame as he was very good there, aggressive into a tackle etc , but I think the injuries have slowed him down, his last season at Leeds he was injured a lot , last season for us he had injuries. Just doesn’t look the same player , looks a yard slower than how he was at Leeds. He has had some bad injuries
