It's Quiet 18 - Wanna ring the bell?

It's just a thought, but with a possible increase in games again, I wonder if Pep will play 'mixed' teams in the domestic cups to gine the A squad a break and hold on to the likes of McAtee, Phillips,Palmer, Peronne, Gomez add Lewis & Bobb. We are leaving it late finding clubs for Doyle & THB also.
We generally do . Last year, we had some tough ties which limited rotation some what

There’s no need to hate or downplay the talent of our youth but the gap between our EDS and the top of the prem has proven too large for almost everyone we have wanted to play for us over the years. The list is almost a mile long and at some point we have to accept that it’s too big an ask for the vast majority of talents. Lavia is probably the model, whether we like it or not. They need to go play somewhere at the prem level where they can make mistakes and grow into being Prem players
Or, we give them game time.
If you can name the EDS players that we have given an extended first team position to, outside of Foden, you're a better man than me. Now, I obviously trust the coaches, but I do not believe that we can dismiss talents like Palmer, Bobb and McAtee, nor Gomez, without giving them regular first team minutes. Personally, I would like one to start every game, and one to be a substitute. In cup games, I would have two starters and another sub. It is no good judging these players if they come on for the last ten minutes, or if they come in as one of ten subs in a a seriously weakened second-half friendly team.

Kova - Rodri
Gvardiol - Dias- Stones

with Rodri playing the hybrid. Kova being the transition player.
Yes this is what I was referring to.

I have many reasons for why I think Pep will come to this conclusion even if he doesnt see it right now.

1. If Stones is not fit, then it seems, if he wants to go from 4-1 shape to 3-2, that Lewis is the candidate chosen.

I believe this to be an inadequate approach for Lewis, its fine for Cup games, but not for a long run if Stones is out.

Asking Rodri to do Stones CB into midfield role means we can still have a back 5 of stalwart defenders. Lewis is too lightweight for me and is better as an energizer bunny 8 player.

2. If Stones is fit, I now ask myself the question "If you have 5 defensive players, who are the best on the ball and at passing?".

My conclusion is: Kovacic, Stones, Rodri, Gvardiol plus 1 more which has to include Dias. If we get Paqueta I believe he can do Kovacic role too.

If you play these 5, Rodri has to play CB pushing into mid next to Kova.

You can still do Rodri DM, but this means sacrificing Kovacic for another CB. And this is how we normally play.

But my feeling is Pep will see the value in Kovacic/Paqueta in deeper ball progression over a weaker CB option and do this.

I know people wont agree with me, but my general idea for this is simple:

Get more press resistant ball controllers and we dominate the midfield and win the game.

That's the XI starters and 9 subs, with Kev's injury and the two targets coming in. I don't see where one of the senior lads sits out completely for any of the kids on the resv. list

Pep will likely use Laporte on the bench for McAtee if we dont shift him that's another out.

On the off chance we get a decent cup draw and run you could play them, we could also go out in the first game for some reason and they've all been kept about for 2 starts. (Yes they are still getting great coaching by they all have for two years now, time to sink or swim on the pitch).

Some decisions to be made on them all (bar Carson & KDB obvs). IMO.

There's a reason for this. We're playing at the apex of world football, so unfortunately we don't have the luxury of affording playing apprecticeships to our EDS players. Only the elite will get that chance

I'd rather our EDS go out on loan, or are sold with a buyback/sell-on clause, so they can play man football, gain valuable experience & prove themselves to us or other clubs like Lavia.

Only the elite will be kept here, & so far that's been Foden. Palmer failed to impress when given numerous chances last season, & the player admitted this himself.

He needs to take a step down in Premier League level & play for a season without the pressure which will be heaped on him to deliver at City.

Of course, but we have people on here pleading for players like Olise and Doku, and we have no idea if they are elite players. All players, unless they're Erling, need time to forge bonds and playing patterns with colleagues, and you can't do that without minutes. We are also talking about the very best players in the recent U21 tournament.

Palmer played a couple sub minutes OUT of position last season and people are using that to justifu him not being good enough.

Whenever he plays RW, he shines, as long as Pep plays him there we have a class talent we need to keep.

He and Doku should be rotating on the wing. With Doku also rotating with Grealish.

Both have proven themselves in their respective leagues, & this is my point.

They're not at elite level clubs, so have been afforded the opportunity to play in top leagues without the pressure of delivering trophies.

Both Doku & Olisé prove my point.

And I take your point, which is that because they have proven themselves at a lesser level, they are worth a punt. Bobb, Gomez and Palmer were probably the best three players in the recent U21 tournament, so unless that is ignored they have proven themselves too, at least enough to be given more play time in their correct positions.
