It's Quiet 18 - Wanna ring the bell?

Alvarez G/A was high when he played behind Halaand or as the striker. His numbers dropped once Foden moved behind Halaand and KDB returned. And we produced a lot goals when Alvarez was sidelined at the later stage of last season.

The spot behind Halaand is a honey spot. Even James got a good number after he had a run of playing there in the preseason. No disrespect to James but u don't need to be a WC winner to get numbers there.
Your first sentence confirms my point, when Alvarez played in his natural position either off Haaland or up front his contribution was high. Them goals need replacing for me. We'll see I hope you are right though.

Who said anything about shiny toys? There is a such a thing as a viable professional who can do a job for us. Someone like a Locatelli would be a massive upgrade over Nico O'Reilly as an example. Someone who would not cost us a fortune and doesn't need to start all the time. Someone who can provide quality depth, the sort we've always had.

So are you saying we aren't confident that we have irrefutable evidence? We are certainly not operating in what one would consider SOP for us...

But Locatelli would be coming from a different country, he'd have to learn the league and learn how to play under Pep.
If he doesn't hit the ground running then that may be a big problem, see Phillips and Nunes (who i'm not writing off quite yet) as examples.

Maybe the club are wary of having another scenario like that so would rather develop our own younger players who at least have played in the same system and can be brought along at the club's pace?

Not doom and gloom but that community shield game showed without Rodri we get played through midfield there’s a huge gap. Chelsea will be the test without Rodri

Kovacic had a good game but we still got opened up constantly. If the rags could finish it would’ve been 3 or 4.

If Rodri can’t play I don’t think a Bernardo and Kovacic will work. Rodri knows how to stop a pass getting through when to intercept. Those two don’t, maybe kova can learn but he had Kante at Chelsea to do that.

Bruno G has that ability at Newcastle in interceptions and cutting balls played though midfield.
