Someone needs to play in those cup games and against "shite" opposition as you call them in order to keep everyone fresh and rested. It's a role someone on any team playing 65 to 70 matches needs to play. Phillips failed in that role (cue Southampton in the Carabao Cup). To date you can't make the argument that Nunes has failed in that role. Actually you can't even definitively say he can't jump in with a first 11 squad if needed and do a job. For me the rush to slag off Nunes by some reeks of something other than his footballing abilities.
