thinking about it.

Think it's a no brainer for both sides. Gundo gets to play in the environment and for a manager he loves, won't play every game which will keep him sharp. He'll provide cover for several positions which will mean he'll still get plenty of game time. We get short term cover until we sign a long term Alvarez replacement or one of the young players is ready.

I'm usually against players returning, but I'd fully support this one. Not sure it will actually happen, but I hope it does.

Probably the only return I’d understand, given that we fought to keep Walker the Inseminator, but not for him.

True, we`d have huge cash for Wirtz though and this would help this season as well?
we also need huge cash to renew those who need it.

KDB, Silva, Stones, Walker, Rodri, McAtee, Ederson, Ortega and probably Haaland if they wanna kick that RC down the road all need deals and/or to be talked too.

Maybe they keep the powder dry and go record breaking massive next summer but doubt it.

Gundo is soon to be 34 and at the time, the club was struggling to justify offering him a 2nd year on the deal he wanted. That 2nd year is the year we are in right now. The year the club was tentative to commit to. Don’t see the club paying a fee plus wages for a near 34 year old that they were unsure on offering a 2-year deal 18 months ago.

expecting Jack/Sam etc to shoot this down asap

You could say the same about Phillips. Blatantly obvious Pep doesn’t think either of them are good enough. Bar injuries Nunes will only start in easier home league games in between CL fixtures or cup games against shite opposition.
So the problem with Nunes is he won't play above KDB, Foden, Rodri, Bernardo, and Kovacic? Someone needs to play in those cup games and against "shite" opposition as you call them in order to keep everyone fresh and rested. It's a role someone on any team playing 65 to 70 matches needs to play. Phillips failed in that role (cue Southampton in the Carabao Cup). To date you can't make the argument that Nunes has failed in that role. Actually you can't even definitively say he can't jump in with a first 11 squad if needed and do a job. For me the rush to slag off Nunes by some reeks of something other than his footballing abilities. Its either that or some people have no idea what they're talking about when evaluating players...JMO
