It's Quiet 18 - Wanna ring the bell?

Rodri will be handled with kid gloves when he gets back, so we will need an extra midfielder to cover that.

Plus, the two key lessons of the past few months must surely be that (i) our squad is simply too small and (ii) we’ve allowed our midfield to get old together, with a major overhaul required.

Ultimately it will be determined by who is available. But if two quality midfielders can be bought in January then I think we’ll buy them both, because we need them.
This is exactly right. We must also remember that there is once again no substantial break in the summer as we go off to the States for the CWC. It is imperative that we not just replenish the squad, but increase its size. If you look at the midfield alone, it's currently McAtee, Bernardo, Foden, Gundogan, Kovacic, De Bruyne, Rodri, Nunes. By the end of summer 2025, you might only have three or four of those still at the club. McAtee might even go out on loan this January.

The rebuild has to start mid-season and I think it’s likely we will move to bring in two midfielders.

Maybe that particular statement is hyperbolic, but that doesn't mean that players don't see City as a major club and would be attracted to a move to us.

Sometimes you state things in either black or white terms Ray, and continue to argue along those lines, and that is where others disagree with you.

Mid-season transfers may be more difficult but where a buying club is determined enough, they clearly do happen in football.
The buying club tends to end up paying more than the player's is worth mid-season or the selling club ends up pricing him out the move in January. Mahrez being an example.

Or the player is ambitious and backs themself to make a difference for us as any elite level professional would?
Increasing their wage, play under pep and in every top level European competition in the process.

Any move for a player is a risk no matter which window it happens in. I'd argue there's less pressure to bed in now the league is effectively gone.

And also there's no chance any football agent on earth would be advising their player against a move to city to sacrifice what would likely be a huge pay day for them.
Not when the club is struggling for form and has to uproot his family and fully adapt to both a new league and culture in a short period. Flip that in the summer he has more time to prepare even at the end of that particular window. Sometimes the money isn't worth the hassle if you are settled at your current club.

I think Kelleher is a very good keeper.
If he is on the market, I think we'd have to be at least looking at him.
Average at best. If Kelleher was at another Premier League we would pass on him. Allisson is the better option if we were to sign one of their keepers

If the club decides that the signing is important or necessary, they will make the decision and pay.

Apart from supporter opinion, who cares ?

The club will see it as a sound investment meeting their requirements , imo of course.

This forum is not the financial heart of MCFC despite what posters believe. :)
